As a Trauma Registrar Senior at UVA Health,you'llplay a vital role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reporting of critical trauma data that drives quality improvement initiatives, supports accreditation requirements, and contributes to better patient care across the continuum. The Role As a Trauma Registrar Senior, you will serve as a trusted subject matter expert responsible formaintaininghigh-quality trauma registry data while supporting performance improvement and quality initiatives across the trauma program. This role offers a unique combination of autonomy, analytical work, and meaningful impact on patient care outcomes. In a typical day, you will: Abstract andvalidateclinical data from electronic medical records for trauma registry submission and reporting Apply AIS and ICD-10 coding methodologies to accurately capture injury severity and patient outcomes Manage an independent patient abstraction workload whilemaintainingproductivity and quality standards Perform concurrent abstraction to supporttimelyregistry completion Identifyand communicate Performance Improvement (PI) filters and quality concerns discovered during case review Generate and analyze reports that support trauma program operations and regulatory requirements Participate in quality-related projects, reporting activities, and data-driven improvement initiatives Collaborate with trauma program leadership and fellow registrars to ensure data accuracy and consistency Serve as a resource for team members, sharingexpertiseand best practices Assistwith onboarding and mentoring new trauma registry staff as needed This position is best suited for a highly organized, self-directed professional who enjoys critical thinking, problem solving, and working with complex clinical data. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience required. Licensure: None. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS Education College-level course work in medical terminology anatomy and physiology or equivalent experience in allied health field, trauma Experience 2 years of experience as a trauma registrar 2 years healthcare and medical record experience 2 years relevant experience performing data analysis extraction and systems interface. This position requires heavy critical thinking and data analysis License/Certification AAAM AIS 2015 Certification Trauma Registry Course Certification ICD-10 Trauma Injury Coding Certification required every 5 years Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS) preferred - CAISS must be obtained within 2 years of hire PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. The pay range for this role is $20.28 - $40.57 hourly.
