What to Expect
The Cabin Validation Engineer (Material Planning) is responsible for ensuring prototype and production-intent components and sub-assemblies are delivered from multiple manufacturing sites to test labs to support design validation needs across multiple vehicle programs. Unlike full-scale production planning, this role is focused on validation builds, moving the right parts to the right lab at the right time so that system and part testing stays on schedule. This individual must understand Tesla's supply chain and the cabin commodities they support, such as Seating Systems, Instrument Panels, and Headliners, and must coordinate allocation, logistics, inventory control, packaging, and shipping of test hardware. They will manage supply and constraints, report status and escalate risks, engage suppliers and internal build teams, and relentlessly pursue operational excellence and continuous improvement. The role is cross functional and global in scope, partnering with Design Engineering, Validation, Quality, Supply Chain, and Logistics. You will report to the Manager of Cabin Validation within Tesla's Cabin Engineering team and will be based in Fremont, California.
What You'll Do
- Plan and allocate prototype and validation parts from multiple factories to multiple test labs across multiple vehicle programs based on the DVP (Design Validation Plan) from engineers, and deploy the resulting demand and supply requirements to the supply base to meet build and test timing
- Travel for boots-on-the-ground operations to factories, warehouses, suppliers, and test labs to understand constraints across locations and standardize systems for maximum efficiency
- Coordinate logistics, packaging, and shipping of
test hardware between suppliers, factories, and labs, including international and expedited shipments - Manage allocation of constrained parts across
competing programs and test requests, prioritizing to protect critical validation milestones - Own inventory control and tracking of validation
parts, including receipt, storage, kitting, and chain of custody - Serve as the primary day-to-day interface with
suppliers, factories, and internal build teams to coordinate parts builds, manage lead times, and confirm delivery commitments - Partner with Global Supply Managers on sourcing,
expedites, and cost and availability trade-offs, and escalate to Quality, Engineering, and Logistics when supply risks threaten test timing - Maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) and
manage engineering changes and revision control so labs receive the correct part configuration and quantities while obsolete inventory is minimized - Report supply status, constraints, risks, and
recovery plans to program and engineering leadership and drive issues to closure - Partner with IT and business stakeholders on
planning, tracking, and process improvements for validation material flow
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Supply Chain, or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of experience in manufacturing, supply chain management, logistics, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of MRP and ERP with a solid understanding of bills of material, product lifecycle management, procure-to-pay processes, and supply chain operations
- Experience coordinating logistics, packaging, and shipping, including expedited and international freight
- Strong understanding of inventory control and material allocation under constraint
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate data and present clear recommendations to leadership
- Demonstrated skills in supplier operational and relationship management
- Ability to manage multiple programs and competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Familiarity with prototype or validation build environments and engineering change control is a plus
- Passionate and high energy, with the diplomacy and cooperative style necessary to positively influence others inside and outside of Tesla
