This position is located at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Job Overview
Nova Space Solutions (NSS) is seeking an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Director to provide strategic leadership for facility operations, maintenance, sustainment, restoration, modernization, and repair activities supporting NASA at Stennis Space Center (SSC) and Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF). The O&M Director will lead a diverse organization of skilled trades, supervisors, and support personnel while driving operational excellence, continuous improvement, asset reliability, and customer satisfaction. This leader will foster a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, collaboration, and employee engagement while ensuring mission-critical work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
- Develop and implement NSS operational policies and procedures.
- Develop and execute strategic business and operational plans in partnership with executive leadership.
- Provide situational awareness and operational updates regarding issues affecting safety, mission execution, or contract performance.
- Ensure financial performance through effective budget management, cost control, resource planning, and contract execution.
- Develop maintenance strategies that improve preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), asset reliability, and mission readiness.
- Coordinate maintenance, repair, sustainment, modernization, and construction activities across multiple functional organizations.
- Monitor contract performance metrics and implement corrective actions as necessary to achieve operational objectives.
- Establish expectations for management field presence to ensure safe and efficient work execution.
- Evaluate business processes and implement innovative solutions that improve organizational performance and customer service.
- Prepare and present operational briefings, reports, and performance metrics to executive leadership and
- NASA customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for all Operations & Maintenance (O&M) functions supporting NASA operations at SSC and MAF.
- Develop and implement operational strategies, policies, and procedures that support contract performance, mission readiness, and organizational objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve productivity, increase wrench time, optimize asset reliability, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Develop, monitor, and communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure operational effectiveness, safety, financial performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with NASA customers, tenants, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure mission requirements are consistently met or exceeded.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration between Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and other support organizations.
- Identify and remove barriers that impact operational efficiency, schedule performance, safety, or mission execution.
- Ensure effective utilization of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to support maintenance planning, scheduling, reporting, and asset management.
- Promote a strong safety culture through employee engagement, hazard identification, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Develop subordinate leaders through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and employee development.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, Facilities Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education with Government approval.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in facility operations, maintenance, repair, construction, or related operational environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex maintenance, facilities, construction, or infrastructure programs.
- Experience leading operations within a unionized workforce environment, including interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience leading asset management, reliability improvement, preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and maintenance optimization programs.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing project management methodologies, scheduling tools, Plans of
- Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), resource planning, and performance metrics to manage complex operational programs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors, and technical personnel.
- Strong financial management experience, including budget development, cost control, and resource planning.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple initiatives and lead organizational change in a dynamic operational environment.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with experience briefing executive leadership, customers, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with customers, stakeholders, union representatives, and employees at all organizational levels.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required NASA site access and credentials.
- Ability to successfully complete required background screening and drug testing.
Preferred:
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP).
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) experience.
- Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives within a unionized workforce.
- Experience with Maximo or equivalent Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Experience supporting NASA, Department of Defense (DoD), or other highly regulated industrial environments.
- Demonstrated success improving productivity, reducing operating costs, increasing wrench time, and improving organizational effectiveness.
- Experience leading multi-site operations.
- Proven ability to lead organizational change and transform business processes.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in office, industrial, maintenance, construction, and operational environments.
- Frequent interaction with customers, executive leadership, employees, subcontractors, and government stakeholders.
- Occasional travel between Stennis Space Center and Michoud Assembly Facility may be required.
- Position may require periodic field visits to maintenance, construction, and operational work sites.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, and navigate industrial and construction environments.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when visiting operational or construction areas.
