Position description

VACCHCS Medicine Service/UCSF Fresno Department of Medicine

Physician - Palliative Care - Internal Medicine

California- Department of Veterans Affairs Central California Health Care System, Fresno, CA, affiliated with University of California, San Francisco Fresno Residency Program; leader in health care quality, is recruiting for a full-time board certified or board eligible Internal Medicine physician who is palliative care trained. The applicant must have completed internal medicine residency, have a medical degree (MD, DO or equivalent) and be eligible to obtain a US medical license. Applicants must also be eligible for appointment at the VA. The VACCHCS's basic qualification standards may be found here. The Palliative Care position is primarily responsible for ensuring high quality practices in the treatment of patients at the end of life through the coordination and integration of patient care and various nursing, medical and complementary interventions. This position will function as an important member of the UCSF Fresno residency and fellowship programs, in an environment of supportive of growth and learning.

The responsibility includes coordination of the efforts of the multiple disciplines involved in caring for patients at the end of life across the continuum of care. This includes the inpatient, outpatient, CLC and involves the Palliative Care Consult Team (PCCT). The candidate will serve as a consultant and resource person for development and implementation of educational programs; and development and implementation of specific measures to monitor the effectiveness of the program. The provider will assist patients and their significant others to assume active participation in management of their care and with necessary lifestyle adjustments related to health and anticipated changes. VACCHCS is a complexity level II health care facility. We have an active and expanding clinical research program and welcome energetic and highly proficient candidates to apply. Faculty appointment with UCSF will be commensurate with the applicant's background and accomplishments.

Fresno, California, is an affordable community surrounded by limitless recreational opportunities and spectacular scenery. Ideally located: the majestic Sierra is 60 minutes away and central coast wine region is a few hours away. Fresno is in close proximity to three national parks including renowned Yosemite National Park.

For positions exclusively funded by the affiliate organization:

Fresno VACCHCS provided a reasonable salary estimate for this position $240,000-$315,000.
