Under general supervision, Messenger/Mail Clerks process all outgoing mail, including customer bills, and deliver mail, messages, documents, packages, and supplies to various East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) offices and facilities. Duties require safely operating motor vehicles on a regular basis and the flexibility to shift from one assignment to another.
Typical duties include:
*Delivering and picking up mail, packages and parcels by foot at various EBMUD offices, facilities and locations.
*Driving a vehicle between EBMUD facilities, the U.S. Post Office, agencies and other locations as assigned, in order to deliver and pick up mail, documents, parcels, packages and related materials.
*Accurately sorting mail into proper slots for delivery.
*Following routes so that mail may be delivered in a safe and timely manner; adhering to a fixed schedule.
*Operating a variety of mailroom equipment including letter openers, mailing and shipping systems, postage meters and postage scales; making minor adjustments and repairs to such equipment as required.
*Determining the appropriate postal class, department code and correct postage to affix to domestic and international outgoing mail and shipments.
*Maintaining standards records, completing forms concerning postage used, large, certified and registered mail, bills sent out, mileage driven, etc.
*Other responsibilities include performing clerical tasks incidental to the job and arranging for the cleanliness and maintenance of the assigned motor vehicles.

The salary range is $6,104 per month, increasing to $6,409, $6,729, $7,065 and $7,418 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

2.Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.
3.Application materials will be reviewed and those applicants meeting the minimum requirements will be invited to one of the written test sessions scheduled for Friday, July 17 or Saturday, July 18, 2026.
4.Those candidates with the highest scores on the written test will be invited to the panel interview, tentatively scheduled for late July 2026.
5.Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.
6.The probation period for this position is 6 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.
