About Supermicro:
Supermicro is a Top Tier provider of advanced server, storage, and networking solutions for Data Center, Cloud Computing, Enterprise IT, Hadoop/ Big Data, Hyperscale, HPC and IoT/Embedded customers worldwide. We are the #5 fastest growing company among the Silicon Valley Top 50 technology firms. Our unprecedented global expansion has provided us with the opportunity to offer a large number of new positions to the technology community. We seek talented, passionate, and committed engineers, technologists, and business leaders to join us.
Job Summary:
Supermicro is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Data Center Civil Engineer to lead the civil and site development for next-generation modular data centers (DCBBS) as well as traditional data center projects including greenfield, brownfield, fit-out, and colocation facilities. This role will be a key technical driver in evaluating site constraints, utility routing, grading, drainage, access, and constructability risks to guide deployments in the U.S. and global markets. The successful candidate will own civil site planning frameworks, standards, and readiness criteria to support repeatable, scalable delivery while serving as the civil subject matter expert. This individual will coordinate across architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical disciplines and manage external civil consultants to deliver safe, efficient, permitted, and constructible site solutions aligned with Supermicro's performance and reliability standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead civil site evaluation, due diligence, and feasibility assessments for DCBBS modular data centers and traditional projects (greenfield, brownfield, fit-out, and colocation), including topography, drainage, utilities, soils, floodplain, and environmental constraints.
- Develop and maintain civil design standards, basis of design, site readiness checklists, master specifications, and reference designs to ensure consistency and scalability across global DCBBS and data center deployments.
- Define site planning requirements including grading and earthwork, drainage and stormwater management, access roads, equipment yards, loading paths, utility routing, and future expansion areas.
- Manage external civil consultants and engineers of record from schematic through IFC; review deliverables, enforce Supermicro standards, track design quality and schedule, and coordinate across geotechnical, structural, and other disciplines.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, AHJ requirements, and lead permitting strategy including NPDES/SWPPP, land disturbance, floodplain (CLOMR/LOMR), and utility permits; monitor regulatory risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate closely with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, product engineering, and DCBBS teams to integrate site civil requirements with foundations, structural interfaces, utility coordination, and modular or traditional building layouts.
- Support due diligence, site selection, construction administration, submittal/RFI reviews, field observations, constructability reviews, and project closeout documentation.
- Conduct design reviews, resolve site interface and constructability issues, capture lessons learned, and contribute to continuous improvement of civil frameworks and DCBBS deployment processes.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Act as subject matter expert (SME) on civil and site engineering for data centers, including grading, drainage, utilities, permitting, and constructability.
- Mentor junior civil engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary design and construction teams.
- Provide technical training for internal teams and contribute to design summits, commissioning reviews, and customer-facing engagements.
- Engage with industry partners and track emerging technologies, standards, and best practices in civil/site development for modular and hyperscale data center infrastructure.
Qualifications:
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (Master's preferred).
- Minimum 12 years of experience in civil/site development and infrastructure delivery for mission-critical facilities, data centers, industrial, or large-scale projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (or actively pursuing licensure with expected completion within 12 months) with strong experience managing external civil consultants as owner's representative or developer.
- Demonstrated expertise with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other civil design tools; familiarity with GIS, Bluebeam, or Navisworks.
- Deep knowledge of site development (grading, earthwork, stormwater management, drainage, utilities), permitting processes, AHJ coordination, and data center/industrial site requirements.
- Proven experience coordinating across geotechnical, structural, MEP, and architectural disciplines.
- Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills with ability to interface with customers, AHJs, contractors, and internal teams.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (approximately 20-25%).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Experience with hyperscale data centers, modular/prefabricated deployments, FM Global site requirements, or large-scale industrial infrastructure.
- Familiarity with geotechnical evaluation, expansive soils, karst, high water table, or other challenging site conditions.
- Hands-on experience in construction field support, commissioning, and post-construction evaluation for civil/site work.
- Proficiency with stormwater modeling software (e.g., StormCAD, CivilStorm) and BIM integration.
- Demonstrated success in fast-paced, cross-functional teams bridging civil engineering and data center deployment.
Salary Range
$165,000 - $195,000 The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
