The Maricopa County Human Resources Department is seeking a motivated, innovative, and solutions-driven Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator to support the 4th-largest County in the nation.

The ADA Coordinator provides a variety of services and programs to support Maricopa County's efforts to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other federal and state disability-related laws, regulations, and guidelines. Files all necessary reports and makes recommendations for actions, procedures, and programs to protect the rights of, and improve the quality of life for, people with disabilities and all City residents and visitors.

We Require

  • Four years of experience in ADA compliance and advocacy or related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Disability Studies, or a related discipline
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirements

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Advocating for clients' rights and needs with various systems and agencies
  • Compiling, organizing, interpreting, and presenting data and results concisely
  • Conducting compliance reviews with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies
  • Build a rapport and establish a trusting relationship with clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Learn and adapt to new technologies, methodologies, and tools quickly
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Plan, develop, implement, and assess strategic goals and objectives

Job Contributions

  • Serves as the planning coordinator for Maricopa County programs, policies, and procedures relating to ADA compliance and the promotion of opportunities for people with disabilities. Coordinates the development of County-wide access plans.
  • Ensures that appropriate processes are in place to equitably resolve complaints and inquiries regarding compliance with other laws about discrimination based on ability in County-maintained spaces and places of public accommodations.
  • Investigates complaints and makes recommendations in response to allegations of discrimination and non-compliance. Maintains a record of all disability and accommodation issues and the resolution of each.
  • Maintains current information regarding federal and state laws and regulations and best practices concerning the rights of people with disabilities and ways of providing reasonable accommodation.
  • Develops, facilitates, or contracts services to provide learning opportunities for ADA liaisons and the general workforce.
  • Assesses and assists other County Departments with prioritization of accessibility opportunities in public facilities. Monitors the progress of County ADA projects as needed.
  • Develops, maintains, and coordinates the dissemination of information to all employees and the public regarding disability compliance measures.
  • Assists in budget preparation, administering, and monitoring.
  • Provide program support to various Boards and Commissions and departmental committees, as directed.
  • May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned.

  • This position requires careful attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks
  • A calm, professional demeanor is required to effectively support employees and managers at all levels, as well as members of the public
