The BNSF RailwayLabor Relations Departmentis critical in fostering positive relationships between BNSF, our union employees, and their collective bargaining representatives. This team promotes business decisions that enable safe, satisfying, and financially rewarding work for all BNSF employees while ensuring efficient customer-driven support. With a focus on collaboration and communication, the Labor Relations Department helps to create a supportive and productive work environment for everyone at BNSF.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Managing a heavy workload of labor claims, including research to support BNSF's position
  • Interpretation of collective bargaining agreements
  • Handling labor claims conferences
  • Handling duties to further employee engagement with a heavily unionized workforce
  • Building relationships with internal customers and with rail union leaders
  • Providing subject matter expertise and guidance on common labor relations issues
  • Substantial volume of writing, including the researching and writing of position papers and formal briefs in response to grievance or discipline case appeals
  • Serving as a BNSF Board Member and presenting oral arguments at various arbitration forums
  • Lead negotiator for complex labor agreements and operational changes.
  • Prioritize lead issues and exercise independent judgment to bring issues to finality.
  • Interfacing frequently with numerous company stakeholders (including Operations, Law, Human Resources, Government Affairs, Corporate Communications, Finance, Sourcing, and Marketing) to achieve company objectives
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience with 4-7 years of collective bargaining exposure (or equivalent work experience)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Superb writing skills
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications, specifically Work, Excel, and Power Point required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Postgraduate degree preferred (e.g., law degree, master's degree)
  • Comprehensive understanding of FRA rules and railroad union agreements
  • Written and/or verbal advocacy experience
  • Highly proficient in use of various computer technologies employed at BNSF Railway
