Introduction

Loudoun County's Office of Emergency Management, Safety & Security is seeking customer service-oriented applicants for a Safety and Security Specialist position. The successful candidate will assist the Safety and Security Program Manager by conducting safety and security audits of County facilities and assist with running the Safety and Security Training Program for Loudoun County employees, to include a wide variety of safety and security topics. This position will provide guidance and expertise in-house to promote a program of office-level emergency preparedness, safety, and security. The Specialist will work across departments to ensure all staff are as prepared and informed as possible for emergency and safety situations.


Job Summary

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage electronic access control systems
  • Monitor alarms, alerts, and notifications
  • Maintain detailed incident logs and reports
  • Collect, analyze, and synthesize security-related information to support intelligence briefings
  • Collaborate with security, law enforcement, other County and regional partners
  • Conduct routine systems checks and troubleshooting of security systems and coordinate with technical support for maintenance and repairs
  • Participate in training, exercises, and after-action reviews to improve situational awareness, response effectiveness, and overall security posture
  • Conducting training for employees on safety and security topics, such as office emergency preparedness, CPR and first aid, situational awareness, emergency procedures, personal safety, and de-escalation techniques
  • Conducting safety and security inspections in all County facilities
  • Managing and working with contractors to procure and provide safety and security training programs for employees
  • Assessing safety and security training needs for County staff
  • Maintaining safety and security training and facility audit records
  • Maintaining and developing training materials
  • Managing projects related to Safety and Security, such as the AED program and training
  • Ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree with coursework in Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Emergency Management, Industrial Hygiene, Workplace Security, or a related field; three (3) years of related work experience in occupational safety and/or security; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred experience with any of the following: Development and delivery of Employee, Contractor, and Citizen Training; Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS, private security, and/or Military experience (CPTED and Security Assessments and Managing Guard Services); and experience in the field of Occupational Health and Safety (Hazard Assessments, Safety Inspections).
