Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lead Acupuncturist (FGP) - Manhattan, Medicine-Pulmy+CCM WTC - Part Time.

In this role, the successful candidate, The Lead Acupuncturist will assist director and assistant director with operations of the NYU WTC Acupuncture program, including setting acupuncture program standards and implementing systems to support care delivery. The practitioner will report to the WTC Medical Director and Assistant Director and will utilize their integrative health skills to provide holistic and therapeutic services directly to our WTC patients. The ideal candidate is a Licensed Acupuncturist with a strong background in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and herbal medicine, proficient in diagnosing based on TCM principles and, where appropriate and within scope, creating customized herbal recommendations(raw/granules/patent) and providing integrated care in collaboration with the patient's medical team. The role collaborates across multi-disciplinary teams and external partners to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
The Lead Acupuncturist may also provide integrative health services, including acupuncture and related therapies. This role will be a blend of clinical, administrative, research and education development duties. The practitioner's primary focus will be to administer acupuncture treatments that promote relaxation, balance, and management of chronic health challenges to our WTC patient population.

Job Responsibilities:

Clinical:

Provide individually tailored acupuncture and integrative health treatments for WTC responders and/or survivors to address their WTC covered conditions
Follows standard quality, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures and adheres to local, state and federal laws, regulations and statutes.
Identifies the correct anatomical and proportional point locations based on patient's anatomy.
Treats patients using tools such as needles, cups, ear balls, seeds, pellets, and nutritional supplements
Takes precautions related to treatments such as intradermal needles, moxibustion, electricity, gua sha, and bleeding.
Analyzes physical findings and medical histories to make diagnoses according to Asian medicine traditions. Maintains detailed and complete records of healthcare plans and prognoses.
Formulates herbal preparations based on their herbal properties to treat conditions.

Evaluates treatment outcomes and recommends new or altered treatments to promote, restore, or maintain health.
Educates patients on topics such as meditation, ergonomics, stretching, exercise, nutrition, the healing process, breathing, and relaxation techniques.
Document all patient encounters, treatment plans, and responses to therapy in the EHR per NYU Langone standards, including TCM diagnoses and any herbal or lifestyle recommendations provided.
Collaborate with referring clinicians and the integrative team to align acupuncture (and any herbal-related) treatment plans with patients' overall care plans and medical status.
Communicate effectively with physicians and NPs regarding patient progress, symptom changes, and any clinical concerns.
Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and team meetings.

Program Development

Assist in initiating and building WTC acupuncture program. Co-develop clinical models of care institution wide.
Collaborate with NYU affiliates to expand lifestyle wellness initiatives acrossdepartments for patients, families, faculty, staff, and trainees.
Collaborate with multi-interdisciplinary WTC team for patient care, development offuture projects and development of research opportunities, and future fellowships/mentorships.

Essential Functions

Fosters an environment that is member service and patient care oriented.
Responds to patients, providers and staff regarding issues related to patient care in a timely and helpful manner.
Ensures that all clinical acupuncture program activities are in compliance with JCAHO, the Department of Health, HIPAA, Patient Safety, Departmental and Hospital guidelines
Together with the assistant director and coordinators to develop of clinical documentation standards, templates in the electronic health record (EHR)
Collaborates with Epic team for development and implementation of acupuncture electronic care plans; patient criteria; and clinical flow sheets that support the needs of this multidisciplinary program.

Outreach & Development:

Collaborates with the Outreach and Member Services team to coordinate approach for all marketing and outreach related to NYU WTC Acupuncture Program.
Create educational workshops for patients and staff. Participate in outreach and retention events as it pertains to the NYU WTC Acupuncture Program.

Education, Research and Professional Activities:

Develops and designs educational programs and materials.
Maintains knowledge in the area of Integrative Health and Lifestyle Medicine.
Attends relevant conferences/workshops, with opportunity to co-present.
Participates in professional organizations.
Contributes to the expansion of knowledge within the field of Integrative Health and Lifestyle Medicine.
Facilitates the Team's development and implementation of clinical research protocols.
Participates in the design and organization of investigational activities.
Assists with the identification of outcomes measures.
Participates in composition of IRB submissions for research approval.
Participates in data collection and analysis for research purposes.
Participate in the presentation of original research at local, national, and international scientific meetings.
Ensures that registration and billing processes for clinical research are followed.
Contribute to the authorship and publication of scientific manuscripts.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in a related CAM therapy such as acupuncture, or equivalent from an accredited acupuncture college. Valid NYS Acupuncturists License Expertise in TCM diagnosis, herbal pharmacology, and formulas, including experience creating customized herbal formulas beyond standard patent remedies
Formal certificate or advanced training in Chinese herbal medicine in addition to acupuncture licensure.
Licensure/Certification in herbal medicine preferred

Required Licenses: NYS-Acupuncturists License, NYS License Massage Therapist

Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate of Acupuncture Degree preferred. Additional license/certification in a complementary modality (e.g., Massage Therapy, Nutrition, Yoga, Reiki). Proficient in standard office applications with an understanding of organizational dashboards and spreadsheets. Ability to analyze, research and prepare comprehensive reports.
