Position: Assistant Controller
Location: Raleigh area (Hybrid)

About the Role
A global, PE-backed healthcare and pharmaceutical services organization with operations in over 60 countries is seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee accounting, reporting, and compliance across all international entities.

This is a hands-on accounting leadership role with ownership of international close oversight, balance sheet integrity, audit coordination, and financial reporting under US GAAP. The Assistant Controller will manage one direct report and partner closely with finance managers and local accounting teams across multiple countries to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency in financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is a CPA with a blend of public accounting and industry experience who has worked in a global, multi-entity environment and is comfortable leading distributed teams across time zones.

Key Responsibilities - Global Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Oversee the global financial accounting function, ensuring compliance with international and local accounting standards
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end reporting, including variance analysis of actuals versus budget
  • Ensure full reconciliation of balance sheet accounts with supporting commentary
  • Review and validate monthly reconciliations between local entity and consolidated trial balances
  • Review year-end statutory accounts for international subsidiaries
  • Provide managerial oversight of the processing, recording, and reporting of financial transactions across all entities
  • Deliver ad hoc reporting and analysis to senior management as needed

Key Responsibilities - Audit and Compliance

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of external year-end audit requirements at both group and global levels
  • Lead the group audit process, including fieldwork coordination and statistical requirements
  • Maintain strong relationships with local third-party accountants to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls over financial and related reporting processes
  • Ensure all transactions are recorded promptly, properly valued, accrued, classified, and disclosed

Key Responsibilities - Team Leadership and Global Coordination

  • Manage the global financial accounting team, including training, development, and onboarding of new members
  • Directly manage one team member and partner with and review the work of finance managers based globally
  • Maintain productive relationships across internal departments and communicate the importance of accounting guidelines and controls
  • Foster collaboration and consistency across a distributed, international finance organization

Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • 7 plus years of progressive accounting experience
  • At least 2 years of experience managing or supervising a finance or accounting team
  • Public accounting background with subsequent pivot into industry (2 to 5 years in industry ideal)
  • Experience working in a global, multi-entity organization with international teams
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

Qualifications - Preferred

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or life sciences environments
  • NetSuite or Oracle ERP experience
  • Familiarity with IFRS (not required as reporting is US GAAP, but helpful for global coordination)
  • Experience with FP&A planning tools such as Anaplan or similar
  • Background in a PE-backed or high-growth global organization
