Purpose of the Role

The Senior Project Control Specialist role provides leadership across project controls disciplines by integrating cost management, planning, scheduling, forecasting, and performance analysis to support successful project delivery. This role partners closely with project leadership and customers to provide visibility into project performance, strengthen decision-making, and enable effective execution across the full project lifecycle.

Working within complex project environments, this role supports sustainable outcomes by improving predictability, enhancing project performance, and ensuring alignment between scope, schedule, cost, and delivery objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project controls activities across complex projects by integrating cost management, planning, scheduling, forecasting, and performance reporting functions.
  • Coordinate development and maintenance of project control frameworks that support efficient project execution and alignment with customer objectives.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain project cost reports, forecasts, performance metrics, and management reporting outputs to support project visibility and decision-making.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze integrated engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning schedules to support project execution strategies and delivery objectives.
  • Monitor project performance trends and identify risks, opportunities, and emerging issues related to cost, schedule, productivity, and execution performance.
  • Collaborate with project management teams to establish performance baselines, measurement processes, and recovery strategies that improve project outcomes.
  • Lead forecasting activities and evaluate project progress through analysis of cost, schedule, and performance information.
  • Establish strong working relationships with customers, project leadership teams, and multidisciplinary stakeholders regarding project controls matters and performance expectations.
  • Conduct site engagements and field reviews to validate reporting accuracy, confirm project status, and improve alignment between field execution and project controls activities.
  • Support change management processes by evaluating impacts to scope, schedule, cost, and project delivery commitments.
  • Prepare and deliver project controls presentations, performance updates, and management reports that communicate complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and work direction to project controls personnel while supporting capability development across teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on digital project delivery, reporting efficiency, data quality, and project controls maturity.
  • Promote collaboration across engineering, procurement, construction, supply chain, and operational teams to strengthen integrated project delivery.
  • Support implementation and optimization of project controls systems, reporting tools, and data management practices across projects and programs.

Qualifications / Skill Set
  • Degree qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and practical project experience.
  • Significant experience supporting project controls activities within energy, chemicals, resources, infrastructure, industrial, or complex project environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of project controls principles, including cost management, planning, scheduling, forecasting, change management, and performance measurement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated capability developing and managing integrated project schedules and cost reporting frameworks within large-scale project environments.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle phases and how project controls support delivery performance from concept through commissioning and closeout activities.
  • Experience using project controls systems, scheduling applications, reporting tools, and digital platforms that support integrated project delivery.
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to evaluate complex project information and develop practical recommendations.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and communicate technical concepts effectively across project teams, customers, and leadership groups.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with experience providing guidance, mentoring, and technical direction to project controls personnel.
  • Strong commercial awareness with understanding of project risk, contract impacts, and customer expectations within project delivery environments.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, quality, and responsiveness within dynamic project environments.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and adoption of data-centric solutions that support sustainable project delivery.
