How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
The Wastewater Planning and Community Programs team leads infrastructure planning efforts for the regional wastewater system that is operated by the Environmental Services division of the Metropolitan Council. This work involves close coordination with the 111 communities that are connected to the regional wastewater system, in order to understand system needs and meet the anticipated growth of the region as well as thoughtfully plan for cost-effective and reliable wastewater service. The wastewater planning role is critical to orderly and economical growth of the region while protecting public health and the environment.
Our team brings a regional perspective to infrastructure planning, drafting and interpreting policy, and looking broadly at solutions that provide the greatest benefit to the region. We do this through coordinated planning, permitting, and administration of programs to provide a regional wastewater system and integrated water planning to meet the needs of the Twin Cities region every day to secure clean water that current and future generations can rely on. Our work is both challenging and rewarding, involving collaboration with internal and external partners to anticipate future conditions and to prepare our region for that future.

*The starting salary will depend on the selected candidate's experience, skills, education, and internal salary equity.
This position is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. The candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

What your work environment would be:
The majority of time, work is performed in a standard office setting. Conducting field inspections and performance of duties at off site locations as required. Some positions may require work to be performed at off site work locations (e.g., field inspections) where the position may be exposed to moving parts, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions and vibration. Confined space entry at industry and various facilities is required.

If you are new to the Metropolitan
Council, you must pass a drug test (safety-sensitive positions only),
and a background check which verifies education, employment, and criminal
history. A driving record check and/or
physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction, you do not
automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross
misdemeanor, and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on
whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated
adequate rehabilitation.
