Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association.

Position Summary

The Associate Director, Gameday Entertainment - Women's Basketball supports the transformation of Cal athletic events into high-quality entertainment experiences that drive fan engagement and brand loyalty. Under the direction of leadership, this position assists with the execution of the in-venue show, helping to coordinate live production elements such as scripting, music, and video board content. The Associate Director, Gameday Entertainment - Women's Basketball takes direction on "show calling" duties and helps implement integrated sponsorship activations and halftime segments. The goal of this position is to help maintain an energetic game atmosphere that aligns with the department's marketing and recruitment strategies. Additionally, the Associate Director, Gameday Entertainment - Women's Basketball assists in coordinating and facilitating team-specific community events, and supervising and training a student workforce to ensure gameday operations are professional and consistent with Cal brand standards.

Responsibilities

Live Show Execution & Support

  • Assists with the technical execution of home athletic events.
  • This includes drafting basic show scripts, coordinating music and video board cues, and supporting the "show caller" in the control room to ensure a smooth fan experience.
  • Assists with the creation of Theme Nights for home games and how they are brought to life.

Sponsorship & Marketing Integration

  • Takes direction on the placement of marketing campaigns and sponsorship activations within the live show.
  • Helps execute on-court/on-field promotions and ensures commercial partner requirements are met during the event.
  • Assists with creating a plan for gameday promotions and giveaways to students and fans

Student Supervision & Training

  • Provides daily guidance and supervision to the student intern workforce.
  • Assists in delivering the gameday training program and mentors student staff on basic live production and technical skills.

Revenue Generation

  • Assists with leader on new revenue streams and opportunities that can be brought to life on gamedays and other tent pole events.
  • Assists in coordinating and facilitating team specific community events.

Logistical Coordination

  • Collaborates with Facilities, Operations, and Spirit squads to assist with event logistics.
  • Serves as a point of contact for routine coordination between production and other internal units.

Budgeting

  • Assists with gameday entertainment budgets, track expenses, and evaluate the fan engagement via feedback and data to improve future events.

Event Administration & Review

  • Assists with tracking gameday expenses and gathering fan feedback data.
  • Participates in post-game reviews to help identify areas for technical or logistical improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in an appealing, lively and relevant way.
  • Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
  • Thorough knowledge of content management systems and / or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs.
  • Thorough skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the organization's message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.
  • Thorough understanding of organization's processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications.
  • Thorough technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and / or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.
  • Thorough interpersonal communication skills.
  • Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.
  • Knowledge of the processes, timelines, components and execution for live, in-venue productions with multi-cameras, audio, video, lighting, and talent.
  • Knowledge of professional broadcast hardware and live-show software.
  • Experience in drafting minute-by-minute Rundowns of Show (ROS) for a specific show that includes technical cues and entertainment segments.
  • Knowledge of how to use modern fan-engagement tools like synchronized LED lighting, mobile app triggers for a live, in-venue production.
  • Ability to receive and review fan feedback and attendance data to assist in future show productions.
  • Knowledge of navigating Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) regulations to highlight student-athletes within the live show.
  • Problem-solving skills; multi-task, work with frequent interruptions, and effective listener.
  • Possess skills in coaching and mentoring lower level staff.
  • Time and project management skills to effectively establish priorities and meet competing deadlines both for themself and the team.
  • Interpersonal communications and people management skills to interact effectively with a variety of clients, staff and vendors.
  • Understanding of a budget and ability to plan and adhere to one.
  • Knowledge and some application of mentoring a students/intern workforce across live events.
  • Familiarity with the production benchmarks of elite NCAA conferences or professional sports leagues.
  • Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the ACC, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the Berkeley campus of the University of California adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $83,000 - $90,000.
