Overview

Shannon & Wilson is seeking a Business Data & Analytics Intern to support the development of internal data products and analytics capabilities. This role blends business intelligence, data modeling, and exposure to modern cloud data platforms (Microsoft Fabric).

The intern will help transform engineering, financial, and operational data into usable insights and interactive tools, contributing directly to dashboards, data models, and emerging data-driven workflows across the firm.

Responsibilities:

Data Visualization & Dashboard Development

* Design and build interactive Power BI dashboards and reports

* Create visualizations such as KPIs, filters, drilldowns, and trend analyses

* Translate business questions into clear visual outputs

Data Modeling & Analytics

* Work with semantic models and structured datasets

* Assist in organizing and shaping data for reporting

* Support exploratory data analysis

Data Integration & Platform Exposure

* Gain exposure to Microsoft Fabric data platform

* Assist with connecting datasets and validating data accuracy

* Collaborate with data engineers and analysts

Performance Optimization & Data Quality

* Improve dashboard performance and usability

* Validate data outputs and identify discrepancies

Business Collaboration & Data Products

* Work with engineers and business teams to understand data needs

* Contribute to development of data products

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

* Document dashboards, data sources, and assumptions

* Support development of best practices

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
• 0 to 3 years of experience
• Familiarity with Excel and basic data analysis
• Basic SQL, Python, or similar skills
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Experience with Power BI or similar tools preferred
• Understanding of relational data concepts preferred
• Interest in Microsoft Fabric or Azure preferred
• Personable, flexible, and professional demeanor.
• The ability to work with the appropriate level of supervision.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds.

Level Placement

Typically, depending on an applicant's education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, this position would typically be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Technical Services I, or II level compensated at $27.50 per hour.
