GAI Consultants is seeking a driven Project Engineer to join our high-performing water team, offering strong growth, leadership exposure, and impactful project work. An ideal candidate has water and sewer systems design and/or rehabilitation experience, permitting, and construction experience, and project bid package development. This role offers a clear path to expand into leadership, gain client exposure, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team delivering meaningful infrastructure solutions.

Job Duties:



  • Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary teams delivering innovative water and wastewater infrastructure solutions from planning through construction. Projects include collection and conveyance systems, water distribution networks, pump stations, storage and treatment facilities, as well as system evaluations, rehabilitation, and renewal and replacement initiatives. Provide technical execution and oversight of design projects including schematic/preliminary design, design development, final design, specifications, permitting, bid-phase services, and construction contract document production. Direct and manage a project team of engineers and technicians.
  • Lead water/ wastewater consulting tasks, including planning, detailed design calculations, alternative analysis and selection, cost estimating, equipment selection, project prioritization, and CIP development. Provide schedule and budget development and management for safety, quality assurance/ quality control, while maintaining a high level of client satisfaction.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff while building your leadership profile and technical expertise. Requires regular client-facing interaction and periodic work from client offices and in the field to support collaboration, delivery, and inspection. Local travel within Allegheny County is expected (10-15%), with occasional additional travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic and adjacent states as needed for client meetings and project site visits.

Education



  • B.S or M.S. Engineering, Civil or Environmental Engineering


Certification/Licensure



  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License
  • Driver's License


Technical Responsibilities



  • Develop standards and guidelines.
  • Leads project task work in the practice in their area of specialization.
  • Guides design efforts within a project and develops design packages for bidding.
  • Develops appropriate design alternatives for complex engineering projects that consider realistic requirements, constraints, community input, permitting, and other regulatory constraints. Integrates advanced concepts to solve complex problems.


Project and Task Management



  • Oversees small to mid-size, or multidiscipline project teams.
  • Implements effective teamwork and leadership.
  • Recommends personnel and funds required to carry out projects.
  • Oversees technical, legal, and financial task issues. Integrates these components into a complete project management plan for engineering projects.
  • Determines project task objectives and requirements.


Management Responsibility



  • Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
  • Implements staff development plans within their organizational segment, including technical, management, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates financial acumen and familiarity with legal issues related to engineering practice.


Communication Skills



  • Possesses strong technical writing, verbal communication, and leadership skills working in a dynamic team environment.
  • Provides exceptional negotiation of critical issues and effective persuasive communication to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key engineers and officials, or other organizations and companies.
