Summary of Job Duties:The UA Little Rock Department of Biology is seeking to hire an intern to assist with the organization, documentation, preparation, and management of biological and geological specimens as part of an ongoing effort to develop and maintain biological and geological collections for the UA Little Rock Museum of Natural History. The position provides hands-on experience with biological and geological materials and collection management practices commonly used in academic and museum settings. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Required Education or Experience:

  • Must be a current UALR Biology Student

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with inventorying and organizing biological or geological specimens within the collection;

  • Help catalog specimens by recording relevant information such as specimen type, classification, and provenance;

  • Label specimens and storage containers according to established organizational standards;

  • Assist with the cleaning, preparation, and basic stabilization of samples;

  • Maintain accurate records of specimen locations and catalog information;

  • Assist with the safe handling, storage, and organization of biological or geological materials;

  • Support general collection management tasks as needed, including data entry and documentation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications;

  • University coursework in Biology, Geology, Museum Studies, or related disciplines;

  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills, and the willingness to work effectively with diverse populations from a variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds;

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment;

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;

  • Ability to exercise initiative and make sound judgments, respond positively to direction from supervisors and work without direct supervision;

  • Ability to remain focused and exercise close attention to detail. Must be dependable and punctual;

  • Must have own transportation to campus.
