Overview

TRC, Member of WSP, is seeking a mid-level Project Manager with a background in Engineering or Environmental Science and 4 to 10 years of experience in Environmental Compliance to join our growing Engineering, Construction & Remediation (ECR) team in Chicago, Illinois. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual looking for career growth and will provide leadership and support for new and existing regulatory compliance projects; due diligence efforts; and other environmental projects. TRC's Chicago office is located in the downtown central business district and provides a vibrant, dynamic, and fast-paced work environment and access to a broad spectrum of professional opportunities in a setting that thrives on teamwork.


Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver environmental compliance-focused projects (primarily CWA/NPDES related projects) ranging from work for small individual clients/locations to multidisciplinary projects for large TRC target and growth client portfolios.
  • Serve as an expert for the preparation or review of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans as well as other plans as needed (e.g., FRP, ERAP) for various facility types.
  • Prepare and submit compliance related stormwater, industrial wastewater, EPCRA, hazardous waste reports, Permit applications, etc., on behalf of clients and ensure client or agency required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual reporting requirements are met.
  • Familiarity with stormwater sampling and inspections in Illinois and Indiana.
  • Prepare and submit cost and technical proposals to new and existing TRC clients for compliance-related projects and work as a team member on development of larger compliance project/program submittals.
  • Perform or review basic engineering calculations related to preparation of Plans, Permit Applications and compliance submittals for soil, air, and/or water.
  • Deliver projects effectively to mutual benefit of TRC and the client with a focus on maintaining budgets and schedules, managing change, and owning project Health and Safety and Quality.
  • Management and Oversight of subcontractors including analytical laboratories.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience with compliance work for Class I railroads and familiarity with rail yards/facilities.
  • Demonstrates excellence and efficiency in writing, communication, data analysis, professional judgment, and knowledge of scientific principles.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and work ethic, with a desire for career growth.
  • Strong quality assurance/quality control skills and detail-oriented to perform technical, style, and consistency reviews.
  • Ability to manage time and multiple project assignments in both a team setting and individually.
  • Conversant with Microsoft Office applications and other environmental software.
  • Ability to work in a project team.
  • Ability to work on evening or long-term field assignments a plus.
  • Up to 20% travel to local sites within Illinois and other Midwest states.
  • Familiarity or experience with environmental work for DOTs or Class I rail clients.

Required Background

  • B.S. or B.A. in engineering or environmental science, or a related field.
  • 4 to 6 years of previous environmental consulting experience including previous Project Management experience.
  • OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER and Supervisor Training.
  • Valid Driver's License and transportation options for work in office and field.

Other experience, qualifications or responsibilities (not required, but a plus):

  • EIT, PE, CHMM, or CIH certification/licensure a plus
  • Familiarity with wastewater operations including basic operation and water treatment.
  • Familiarity with assessment/remediation, preparation of work plans or remedial action work plans and reports and the collection of soil, groundwater, soil vapor, or indoor air environmental samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy (primarily wind or solar) projects including permitting, decommissioning plans, etc.
  • Familiarity with ASTM Phase I ESAs.
  • OSHA 10-hr or 30-hr Construction certifications.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
