THE POSITION

Join the Department of Human Services as a Food Service Worker 1 and help provide quality meals for the patients at Torrance State Hospital. This position offers a mix of kitchen tasks, meal preparation, and delivery work that keeps each day moving. You will support patient well-being by helping ensure meals are prepared safely and correctly. This is a meaningful role for someone who likes practical, everyday work.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the dietary department by helping prepare, portion, and deliver meals for patients at Torrance State Hospital. The role includes food preparation, cleaning tasks, and maintaining safe and sanitary conditions throughout the work area. As a Food Service Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Meal Assembly: Assist with trayline setup and work assigned trayline positions for each meal
- Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain dish machines, tray washers, and other food service equipment
- Sanitation Tasks: Clean floors, surfaces, machines, and utensils to meet all sanitation standards
- Food Preparation: Portion food items, cook simple foods, and prepare salads and ingredients as directed
- Delivery Duties: Deliver meal trays, nourishments, and supplies according to established schedules
- Stock Handling: Unload supplies, move carts, rotate stock, and store food items properly

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, rotating days off, with a 30-minute lunch. You will be required to work weekends and holidays as assigned, with one scheduled weekend off per month. You will also be required to work the 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM shift as needed. This may change based on operational needs.
- This position may require overtime and travel.

- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
