About the Job

At MedStar Washington Hospital Center, we are committed to delivering the highest quality, safe, and compassionate care. We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our Sterile Processing Department (SPD) team-supporting a high-performing, Magnet-recognized, fast-paced surgical environment.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring surgical excellence by maintaining the integrity, safety, and readiness of instruments and equipment across perioperative services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support all sterile processing functions including decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and supplies
  • Ensure compliance with MedStar policies, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements (AORN, The Joint Commission, HSPA/IAHCSMM)
  • Collaborate with Operating Room leadership, surgeons, and clinical teams to optimize case flow and instrument readiness
  • Proactively review surgical schedules to anticipate equipment and instrumentation needs
  • Maintain high standards of aseptic technique, quality, and patient safety
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audit readiness, and safety programs
  • Assist in staff education, onboarding, and competency validation
  • Support inventory management, equipment functionality, and process optimization

Qualifications

  • Active RN license or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
  • Bachelor's degree (Nursing or related field) required
  • 2-4 years of perioperative, surgical services, or sterile processing experience
  • Strong knowledge of sterilization processes, surgical instrumentation, and infection control standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and quality-driven environment
  • Excellent communication, organization, and critical thinking skills
