Position Overview The Field Supervisor, Bus Services position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of a complete shift of bus drivers operating multiple campus transit routes. This role is essential to maintaining safe, reliable, and professional transportation services for the UNM community. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of bus
drivers during assigned shifts - Monitor route operations and ensure efficient
transportation services - Provide leadership, guidance, training, and operational
support to drivers and staff - Coordinate transportation support for University
special events and campus activities - Assist with operational coverage by driving a shuttle
bus when required - Ensure compliance with safety standards, policies, and
service expectations - Respond to operational issues, schedule adjustments,
and service needs in real time
Schedule & Operational Expectations These positions are primarily evening-shift assignments and require flexibility to support departmental operational needs, including overtime and occasional weekends. Transportation Coverage Hours- Required Availability UNM Transportation operates:
- Monday-Friday: 4:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
- Additional evening and weekend coverage for special
events
Regular Summer Schedule
- Monday-Friday: 11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
- Includes required event and weekend coverage
Regular Fall & Spring Schedule
- Monday-Friday: 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
- Includes required event and weekend coverage
- On non-event Fridays, hours are modified to:
11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Conditions of Employment
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Ability to obtain a Valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.
- Must obtain passenger endorsement to CDL within 90 days from date of hire.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
- Direct experience supervising, leading, and coaching bus drivers within a transportation environment
- At least five (5) years of experience operating large passenger buses (minimum 40-passenger capacity)
- At least five (5) years of experience leading and supervising 10 or more personnel within a transportation operation, or progressive leadership experience supervising teams of 10 or more employees
- Direct experience supervising employees represented under collective bargaining agreements
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality while exercising sound judgment and discretion at all times
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize resources and operational needs effectively
- Transportation safety certification(s)
- Experience providing training and guidance to CDL drivers
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and mentor large teams
