Job Summary:

The HIM Operations Supervisor provides leadership and supervision to the HIM Operations teams. This role is responsible for administrative matters relating to health information, overseeing the daily work of the HIM operations teams, and managing, directing, and coordinating activities related to all HIM operations workflow. The supervisor will foster working relationships with other departments to ensure timely resolution of any issues within the HIM workflow. Additionally, the HIM Operations Supervisor is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance and incorporating customer service into daily job duties.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Provide oversight and guidance of all processes and HIM staff related to chart completion, integrity of the medical record, release of information, and scanning.
  • Identify and implement changes regarding policy, productivity, and quality measures, ensuring staff performance meets expectations.
  • Evaluate staff performance on an annual basis, accurately measuring and evaluating staff performance, productivity, and quality measures, and ensuring that staff follows and meets departmental standards.
  • Responsible for administrative tasks such as preparing and approving work schedules and timecards.
  • Represent Health Information Management and attend meetings as directed.
  • Perform other duties and projects assigned by management.


We are looking to thin the span of control of one of our supervisors who currently oversees chart completion, scanning, chart correction, and identity. The current supervisor will continue to oversee chart completion and scanning, while this contractor supervisor will oversee identity and chart correction. We are looking for someone with a strong background, skills, and knowledge in patient identity, such as patient merging and overlays, as well as navigating chart correction cases (preferably with Epic experience in this area) and can lead a team of a couple of analysts.

Education Requirement:



  • Required Education:

    • Associate's degree in healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or related field.


  • Preferred Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
    • OR Master's degree in healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or related field.




Required Certification & Licensure:



  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) upon hire.
  • OR Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) upon hire.


Preferred Certification & Licensure:



  • Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
  • OR Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
  • EPIC certification.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:



  • Required Skills & Experience:

    • At least five (5) years of HIM experience.
    • At least two (2) years of experience progressively leading teams.
    • Epic proficiency.
    • Microsoft Office skills.


  • Preferred Skills & Experience:

    • At least one (1) year of Cures Act and HIPAA Privacy Rules experience.
    • At least four (4) years of leadership experience.
    • OnBase proficiency.




Schedule Notes:

The position is mostly remote but may require being on-site to support the team or for mandatory on-site meetings.
