Job Summary

The CDL Driver is responsible for safely transporting materials and products to customer locations while ensuring timely deliveries and exceptional customer service. This role primarily involves operating a Class A commercial vehicle and flatbed trailer to deliver sewer, waterworks, pipe, valve, and related construction materials. In addition to driving responsibilities, the position supports warehouse operations by assisting with order preparation, loading, unloading, and inventory-related activities. The ideal candidate has a strong safety mindset, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Job Responsibilities



  • Operate a Class A commercial vehicle and flatbed trailer to safely transport materials to customer locations.
  • Deliver products according to established schedules and customer requirements.
  • Verify delivery routes and directions prior to departure.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload materials in accordance with company and DOT safety standards.
  • Ensure all cargo is properly secured and within legal weight limits.
  • Obtain customer signatures and required documentation upon delivery.
  • Review deliveries with customers and provide professional customer service during all interactions.
  • Pick up customer returns and verify returned materials against supporting documentation.
  • Retrieve local purchase orders and related materials as assigned.
  • Complete and maintain delivery documentation accurately and timely.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding delivery status, issues, or schedule changes.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, moving violations, maintenance concerns, or safety issues promptly.
  • Refuel vehicles and maintain vehicle cleanliness and operational readiness.
  • Comply with all DOT regulations, company policies, and safety procedures.
  • Assist with warehouse operations including order preparation, staging, loading, unloading, and material handling.
  • Support inventory and shipping activities as needed.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and represent the company positively at all times.
  • Work overtime as required to support business needs.


Job Requirements



  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Class A CDL driving experience required.
  • Must have held a CDL for a minimum of 1 year.
  • Must maintain all required state-issued self-certification designations and provide supporting documentation.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills required.
  • Ability to operate smartphone applications and mobile technology required.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, vehicle inspections, and transportation safety practices required.
  • Ability to safely load, secure, transport, and unload materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules effectively.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Ability to work both in driving and warehouse environments.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials as required.
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to compliance.


Education



  • High school diploma or GED preferred.


Work Experience



  • Minimum of 1 year of Class A CDL driving experience required.
  • Experience operating flatbed trailers preferred.
  • Experience delivering construction materials, industrial products, building materials, or related products preferred.
  • Experience performing customer-facing delivery services preferred.
  • Warehouse, shipping, receiving, or material handling experience preferred.
  • Forklift operation experience preferred.
