Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, testing, and production support of advanced mechanical systems and components used in aerospace, defense, commercial aviation, space, and mission-critical applications. This role supports cradle-to-grave product development activities, including concept generation, engineering analysis, prototyping, testing, qualification, manufacturing support, and product improvements. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical design expertise, experience with high-pressure pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced engineering environment. This position requires a highly hands-on engineer who can effectively collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, testing, and program teams while driving innovative product solutions from concept through production.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and product development activities for aerospace and mission-critical systems.
  • Develop conceptual designs into manufacturable products that meet technical, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Support cradle-to-grave product development including design, analysis, prototyping, testing, qualification, manufacturing support, and product improvements.
  • Design and develop pneumatic, hydraulic, electromechanical, and high-pressure fluid control systems and components.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Apply engineering analysis techniques including stress, fatigue, vibration, acceleration, and performance analysis.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation plans to support successful product development.
  • Support research, development, qualification, certification, and validation activities.
  • Investigate product failures and lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts.
  • Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and continuous improvement methodologies throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, testing, supply chain, and program management teams to ensure successful product execution.
  • Support production design problem resolution and manufacturing-related engineering activities.
  • Manage multiple concurrent engineering projects and priorities in a high-volume product development environment.
  • Develop engineering standards, design guidelines, technical documentation, and best practices.
  • Support customer requirements, regulatory compliance activities, and aerospace quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to engineering team members.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of mechanical design, product development, or systems engineering experience required.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD software required.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) and product development activities preferred.
  • Experience with high-pressure pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, valves, or fluid control products preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience supporting testing, qualification, validation, and production environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects from concept through production implementation.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, product development, systems engineering, or related engineering roles required.
  • Experience supporting cradle-to-grave product development required.
  • Experience with aerospace, aviation, defense, space, or other highly regulated engineering environments preferred.
  • Experience designing high-pressure pneumatic, hydraulic, electromechanical, or fluid control systems preferred.
