Job Responsibilities
- Manage a team of engineers and designers with focus on training, mentoring, and promoting professional development of junior engineers
- Design and prepare one-lines of electrical distribution including medium voltage, low voltage, and emergency power distribution systems
- Perform advanced level electrical calculations and analysis including generator sizing, short circuit analysis, overcurrent protective device coordination, arc flash risk assessment and mitigation strategies, underground cable ampacity calculations, and power factor correction
- Coordinate multi-project workload and effectively delegate tasks to Junior engineers while providing oversight and direction on the development of design for power, lighting, lighting controls, grounding, lightning protection, communications, and fire alarm systems
- Review and edit project specifications
- Participate in inter-discipline project coordination and promote communication between disciplines throughout the design process
- Visit construction sites to review, monitor, and report progress and perform other construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, attend construction site meetings, respond to RFI's, assist in field commissioning activities, and prepare field status reports
- Implement the department's quality control vision through performing peer checks and quality reviews on construction documents
- Ensure project schedule milestones are achieved, track scope creep and coordinate with Project Managers for schedule and cost impacts
- Participate in developing design fee and scope for project proposals
- Closely monitor project financial health and profitability to ensure design work is performed within allocated budget
- Assist the Discipline Director with the forecasting of workload and resources for assigned projects, as well as performance reviews and talent recruitment efforts
- Be a decision maker on critical project issues and serve as an electrical system specialist to resolve conflicts and devise solutions
- Participate in client facing marketing and presentation efforts
- Contribute to the improvement of the department's design standards
- Promote and professionally represent the firm in front of clients and review agencies
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building and energy conservation codes
- Working knowledge of REVIT, SKM Power Tools, AGI32, Microsoft Visual, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft OneNote
- A leader's mindset that is centered around the development and success of team members while promoting collaboration and cooperation among staff
- A minimum of bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
- A minimum 10 years of experience in Architecture and Engineering field
- Professional Engineering License (P.E.)
- The ability to participate in authoring or co-authoring white papers and publications
