OVERVIEW

Are you energized by solving complex manufacturing challenges, working directly with cutting-edge technology, and building scalable production processes from the ground up?

Veeco is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to help launch and scale production of an advanced optical deposition system supporting the semiconductor industry. In this highly visible role, you will work at the intersection of Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Operations, serving as a key technical resource responsible for troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems, driving process improvements, implementing engineering changes, and enabling production readiness.

This is a floor-first role where success is measured by your ability to solve problems, improve processes, and partner closely with technicians during active builds. You'll tackle challenges ranging from assembly and integration issues to root cause investigations, process development, configuration management, and production scaling. As production ramps, you'll have the opportunity to shape manufacturing best practices, influence product manufacturability, and become a technical leader on a sophisticated capital equipment platform.

For engineers who enjoy hands-on problem-solving, production ownership, and driving measurable business impact, this is an exceptional opportunity to help build the future of semiconductor manufacturing technology.

Work Location: This position is based on-site at our manufacturing partner's facility in Beverly, MA. Relocation Assistance Available

RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Support & Technical Troubleshooting

  • Serve as the primary manufacturing engineering resource supporting assembly, integration, final test, and production ramp activities for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, controls, and system-level issues using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, RCCA, and PFMEA.
  • Partner directly with assembly technicians on the production floor, participating in Gemba activities to identify, resolve, and prevent manufacturing issues while improving safety, quality, and throughput.

Manufacturing Process & Documentation Ownership

  • Develop, optimize, and sustain manufacturing processes, work sequencing, manufacturing routings, and standard work to improve quality, delivery, cost, safety, and scalability.
  • Create and maintain work instructions, assembly procedures, visual work aids, training materials, and manufacturing documentation to ensure consistent execution and product quality.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI), production ramp, process validation, and manufacturing readiness activities in cleanroom and controlled manufacturing environments.

Configuration Control & Manufacturing Systems

  • Manage and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), supplier deviations, manufacturing deviations, rework authorizations, and product configuration changes.
  • Own manufacturing Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, and product structures within SAP or similar ERP/MRP systems, ensuring alignment between engineering, planning, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Investigate nonconforming materials and assemblies, participate in MRB activities, and drive corrective actions to improve yield, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency.

Continuous Improvement & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Planning, and Operations to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, quality, and production readiness.
  • Support manufacturing tooling, fixtures, hand tools, torque-controlled equipment, test systems, and process equipment to improve repeatability and operational performance.
  • Analyze production metrics and lead continuous improvement initiatives that reduce defects, eliminate waste, improve cycle time, and increase manufacturing productivity.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing engineering, sustaining engineering, process engineering, or production support experience in a high-complexity manufacturing environment.

Preferred

  • Semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting optical systems, vacuum systems, thin-film deposition equipment, gas delivery systems, cryogenic systems, motion control systems, or automated electromechanical equipment.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI), manufacturing transfer, and production ramp activities.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Green Belt, or equivalent process improvement certification.
  • Experience working in ISO-controlled manufacturing and cleanroom environments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience supporting the assembly, integration, test, and production ramp of complex electromechanical systems, preferably semiconductor capital equipment or other highly engineered products.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, RCCA, and PFMEA.
  • Experience developing and improving manufacturing processes, work sequencing, routings, and standard work in a production environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, BOMs, 3D CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD software and SAP or comparable ERP/MRP systems.
  • Experience managing BOMs, ECOs, ECRs, deviations, and configuration-controlled manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of MRB processes, nonconforming material management, NCRs, supplier quality investigations, and corrective action systems.
  • Experience creating work instructions, assembly procedures, visual work aids, and technician training materials.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing tooling, fixtures, hand tools, torque-controlled equipment, precision measurement devices, and production test equipment.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and technical leadership skills with the ability to drive continuous improvement across Engineering, Quality, Operations, Planning, and Supply Chain.

WHY JOIN VEECO?
