Kennedy Jenks is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in any of our California offices. This role offers a unique opportunity to join our growing team and help shape the design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including treatment facilities, pump stations, buildings, and related systems.

The person in this role will join a growing technical services practice that brings practical electrical engineering design solutions to facilities and industrial clients across the United States.

You'll work with multi-discipline teams to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions for clients in the water, wastewater, and industrial sectors. This is a chance to take on technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to projects that make a real difference in communities nationwide.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you'll contribute across electrical design, technical analysis, interdisciplinary coordination, and construction-phase support.

  • Design electrical systems: Perform power system design and studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective relay coordination, and arc-flash hazard analysis. Design lighting, fire alarm, and other electrical systems.
  • Perform engineering analyses: Perform calculations for voltage drop, electrical load studies, system power flow, generator sizing, fault studies, and protective device coordination.
  • Prepare design deliverables: Contribute to conceptual reports, construction plans, and CSI specifications.
  • Use design platforms: Work in Revit, CAD (Computer-Aided Design and Drafting), SKM, and BIM-based design environments to produce detailed design documentation.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces: Coordinate Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and associated logic diagrams with electrical schematics for process equipment.
  • Support construction administration: Review contractor submittals and provide engineered solutions to Requests for Information.
  • Guide technical growth: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

What Makes This Role Different

  • Translating Complex Requirements into Practical Solutions: This role turns complex facility and industrial power needs into reliable, constructible solutions that help clients operate with confidence.
  • Bridging Engineering, Design, and Client Needs: The work connects electrical engineering with architecture, mechanical design, controls, client priorities, contractor input, and code requirements.
  • Providing Continuity from Planning Through Construction: You'll support projects from early planning through construction, helping teams resolve issues and maintain momentum.

What You Bring

  • Technical knowledge: Technical expertise in MCCs, switchboards, panelboards, load calculations, diesel generators, medium- and low-voltage power systems, transformers, MV/LV switchgear, and SKM software. Advanced knowledge of stand-by generators and associated switchgear.
  • Clear communication: Skill in explaining technical information, coordinating input, and documenting decisions with clarity.
  • Collaborative mindset: Comfort working with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and reviewers to move work forward.
  • Organized execution: Ability to manage calculations, analyses, documentation, coordination items, and deadlines across concurrent priorities.
  • Problem-solving orientation: Willingness to investigate issues, evaluate options, and develop practical engineering recommendations.
  • Mentorship approach: Interest in coaching junior engineers and contributing to a supportive technical team culture.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience: 7+ years of relevant experience, in buildings and preferably in water, wastewater, or industrial waste treatment facilities. Experience designing and sealing medium to large electrical projects and familiarity with the full project lifecycle: planning, design (30%-100%), bidding, construction, commissioning, and testing.
  • Certifications, licenses, or professional registrations: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required in California, with ability to obtain licensure in additional states through reciprocity.
  • Travel: Ability to attend client workshops, meetings, and site visits as project needs require.
