Senior Metallurgical Engineer
Location: Los Lunas, NM

Position Summary
The Senior Metallurgical / Welding Engineer is responsible for providing advanced technical expertise and support related to metallurgy, materials, brazing alloys, powder processing, and manufacturing operations. This role partners closely with production, quality, engineering, and sales teams to troubleshoot technical challenges, improve manufacturing processes, and support product development.
This position serves as the primary technical resource for metallurgical and process-related support and plays a key role in maintaining product quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Technical & Metallurgical Support
  • Provide technical expertise related to metallurgy, alloy systems, brazing materials, and powder processing
  • Analyze material properties, specifications, and product performance
  • Investigate and troubleshoot metallurgical and manufacturing-related issues
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality concerns
  • Review and support technical specifications, procedures, and documentation
Production & Process Support
  • Work closely with production teams to resolve manufacturing and processing issues
  • Assist with process improvements to improve yield, efficiency, and product consistency
  • Support implementation of new materials, products, and manufacturing methods
  • Monitor compliance with technical and process standards
Quality & Customer Support
  • Support Quality with audits, investigations, and customer-related technical concerns
  • Assist in responding to customer complaints and technical inquiries
  • Collaborate with Sales and Technical Services to support customer needs and product applications
Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), troubleshooting guides, and technical documentation
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing reliability and efficiency
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, or related field
  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy, metals, alloys, and material behavior
  • Experience troubleshooting manufacturing and quality issues
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with production, quality, engineering, and sales teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in powder metallurgy, brazing products, or related processes
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience supporting customer technical inquiries and product applications
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred but not required
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Work performed in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Frequent exposure to industrial dusts and metal powders including nickel, chrome, cobalt, copper, silicon, and iron
  • Required use of PPE including safety glasses, steel-toe footwear, hearing protection, and respiratory protection when necessary
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the facility
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed
  • Exposure to noise, moving equipment, forklifts, and varying temperatures
  • Flexible hours and overtime may be required based on production demands
