Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time HVAC Specialist Sr. This position will perform journeyman-level HVAC work in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repairs related to HVAC and related equipment.

To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus.

Essential Functions

30% - Performs journeyman-level installation, maintenance, and repairs of HVAC equipment; troubleshoots systems for damaged or worn-out components; repairs parts; conducts inspections of system leaks, abnormal noises, and electrical defects; reviews to determine required repairs; operates a wide range of tools and testing devices to locate technical problems with HVAC equipment and energy management systems.

30% - Performs equipment installations including evaporative coolers, diffusers, condensers, controls, and other parts related to HVAC systems; prepares tubing, piping, joints and fittings for new installations or equipment parts; cuts, reams, bends, and connects tubing and/or pipe

20% - Performs maintenance and repair on air handlers, pumps, and other related equipment; performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment; assists with construction projects affecting HVAC equipment or systems.

20% - Provides oversight for others' work within the area and assists in getting cost estimates and initiating purchases; maintains tools, equipment, and work site in clean and safe working conditions; performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience performing HVAC work equivalent to journey-level.

OR

An Associate's degree or certificate in an HVAC discipline, or a related field, from a regionally accredited institution or a recognized HVAC vocational program and three (3) years of work experience related to the described duties of this position.

OR

High School Diploma or GED and the successful completion of a recognized four (4) year HVAC apprenticeship program and one (1) year of work experience related to the described duties of this position.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

Special Requirements: Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
1. Journey-level card/license required
2. Possession of a valid State of Arizona Driver License (Class D) may be required for some assignments
3. May require HVAC certifications associated with assignment
Required licenses and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment within the
classification. Licenses and certifications may be subject to renewal and/or require Continuing Education Units
(CEUs) or training by the State or issuing authority.

Preferred: Experience with commercial and/or central plant HVAC systems

Desired Qualifications

A. Five (5) or more years of experience working with Chillers and Air Handling Units.

B. Five (5) or more years of experience working on Commercial HVAC and Refrigeration.

C. Five (5) years of experience and skill in performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance, filing and record keeping principles, utilizing a computer and relevant software for energy management, and specialized equipment relevant to the position.

D. Five (5) or more years of experience working with Cooling Towers and Chemical Treatment.

E. Experience with organizing tasks, meeting deadlines, prioritizing competing demands, and providing customer service.

F. One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years.

* May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.
* May be exposed to hazardous chemicals
* Climbing stairs and/or ladders to reach assigned areas along with working at heights.
* Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions
* Will be required to work in an area of light to heavy noise levels daily

* Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently
and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
* Work is primarily performed in an indoor environment with moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, gasses, blood or other body fluids). Work may sometimes occur in dusty, seldom occupied, or newly renovated facilities and as such, moderate exposure to dust or other particulates can be expected. Some indoor work environments may not be air conditioned. Some work may be performed in small or confined crawl spaces. Portions of work tasks may be completed outdoors which involve exposure to a variety of weather conditions, for short or long durations, including rain, wind, dust, cold temperatures and extreme desert heat. May require the use and climbing of ladders and/or scissor lifts utilizing safety harnesses or other equipment. Some work may be performed in an office/computer workstation and require the use of a computer and keyboard for training, to check emails, and/or communicate with coworkers and supervision. This classification may require that an incumbent be on their feet, standing or walking while performing duties, for the majority, if not all, of a work shift.
