JOB ANNOUNCEMENT COORDINATOR OF STREET PERMITS, BX16 CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION Infrastructure Division Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $76,476.00 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on June 18, 2026. Under general supervision, supervises the Advertising Program and the Permits Issuance Section of the Department of Transportation, responsible for the review and processing of right of way permits and performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Supervises the issuance of permits and fee collections which allow contractors to perform construction related activities including advertising, excavating, rerouting traffic, occupying, closing, and protecting the right of way, telecom installations, and building driveways. * Supervises advertising program including processing permit applications and review workflow, monitoring unit performance, scheduling staff, attending meetings and conferences, managing IT operations, and performing other projects as required. * Reviews permit and dig ticket applications to ensure they comply with applicable criteria including CDOT Rules and Regulations, policies, and Municipal Code of Chicago * 7-28, 10-20, 10-21, 10-28. * Reviews, drawings and plans to ensure the right of way will not be adversely affected by construction. * Monitors permit fees to ensure they are applied correctly and collected in a timely manner. * Coordinates and schedules meetings of public way stakeholders including City of Chicago departments, Police, Fire, CTA, elected officials, and IDOT to plan special events and other roadway closures. * Liaises with utility companies, contractors and other entities. Additional duties may be required for this position. Location: 121 North LaSalle Street - 9th Floor Days: Monday - Friday Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience * Five (5) years of work experience in paraprofessional engineering, review and processing of construction permit applications and/or utility coordination, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, OR * Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree, plus three (3) years of work experience in paraprofessional engineering, review and processing of construction permit applications and/or utility coordination, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, OR * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher, plus one (1) year of work experience in paraprofessional engineering, review and processing of construction permit applications and/or utility coordination, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position. NOTE: A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required. NOTE: Must be flexible to early and/or late meetings and occasional weekends.
