Job Summary

The Route Sales Professional is responsible for selling and delivering fresh baked products to retail customers, restaurants, and institutions. This role focuses on maximizing sales through strong customer relationships, executing effective business practices that drive profitable growth, and providing exceptional service that exceeds customer expectations.

Job Responsibilities




  • Analyze sales data to support market decision-making and drive brand growth through increased sales and acquisition of new shelf space and displays.



  • Establish and maintain effective customer relationships to maximize sales, ensure client retention, and exceed expectations with both new and existing customers.



  • Execute in-store merchandising, including selling displays, ensuring racks are set according to customer guidelines, and supporting promotions.



  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities, including soliciting new customers to expand market share and supporting incremental displays.



  • Introduce new products and services to maximize sales and shelf space within existing accounts and with potential new customers.



  • Maintain accurate inventory counts, place product orders using a handheld device, and service customers according to established service frequency patterns.



  • Utilize order management tools to make independent ordering decisions, ensuring optimal product availability and freshness for each customer.



  • Conduct daily route settlement procedures, including accounting for products, invoices, and cash.



  • Drive company vehicles safely, including loading and unloading trucks, and complete all required documentation, including DOT logs.



  • Promote and adhere to company safety beliefs and principles, working to eliminate unsafe conditions and ensure zero incidents.



  • Demonstrate company values, including respect for people, continuous improvement, exceeding customer expectations, and supporting strategic and financial goals.



  • Perform other duties as assigned.




Job Requirements




  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.



  • 3-5 years of experience in DSD or direct sales preferred; a combination of training and experience demonstrating competency may be substituted.



  • Previous route sales experience is a plus.



  • Strong sales abilities, customer service skills, and account management capabilities.



  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, analyze situations, make decisions, and take effective action.



  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.



  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.



  • Proficiency with computers and order management tools.



  • Valid driver's license required.



  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card.



  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and lift 25-50 pounds regularly.



  • Physical capability to climb, push/pull, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform frequent manual tasks.
