Job Description
General Purpose of Job: The Manager Hospitalist Program supports the Hospitalist Service and Regional Hospitalist Lead physician position in providing operational oversight for inpatient medicine services across UMH Sparrow entities. This includes responsibility for tactical operations such as creating schedules, addressing coverage gaps, payroll, quality, clinical integration related to RN triage and multidisciplinary rounds, revenue cycle functions, work site operational standards, Provider and operational meetings, budget management, performance metrics, and team member accountability, while fostering a positive, collaborative team culture. The manager ensures compliance with quality, safety, regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements, including employee engagement and alignment with the organization's values. Manages the program/ service but also promotes alignment with local operational and cultural standards and norms. Essential Duties Leadership & Operations
- Support the implementation of operational strategies and initiatives that align with regional and health system goals.
- Apply industry benchmarks to monitor performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and leadership to team members and providers, fostering teamwork, motivation, and accountability.
- Encourage diverse perspectives and uphold Mission, Vision and Values, contributing to a professional and inclusive environment for providers, employees, patients, and visitors.
- Promote collaboration and effective communication among providers, staff, and community partners.
- Demonstrate commitment to professional development for both themselves and their team, aligning individual growth and organizational objectives.
- Follows the defined operating model, using resources, development, checklists and dashboards to monitor and drive improved program performance.
- Optimize clinic workflows, finances, and customer service levels to support effective program management.
- Ensure regular two-way communication with program personnel, providing timely reporting on key performance metrics such as productivity, safety, quality, and BASE+ strategic initiatives.
- Assist in implementing processes that support objective indicators of hospital performance in quality, safety, outcomes, and operational reliability (e.g., Vizient collaborative, Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Grades, CMS Star Ratings).
- Maintain and monitor customer service and quality metrics to ensure positive patient experiences.
- Collaborate with leadership to support financial performance goals.
Patient Safety & Performance Improvement
- Participate in patient safety and performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with established policies, quality assurance programs, and infection control standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance the quality of care.
- Collaborate with Regional Quality teams and all key stakeholders so that inpatient programs meet the requirements of all regulatory and accrediting agencies, including, but not limited to, the State Health Facility Licensing Agency, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, ACHC and other accrediting bodies (i.e. Joint Commission).
- In cooperation with Hospital designated personnel and in conjunction with programs established by Health Partners, the Hospitals and their medical staffs, thereafter, provide patient care assessment and program evaluation services with respect to all services provided and ensure that appropriate action is taken, based on the findings of such programs.
- In cooperation with Hospital Administration and Hospitalists Lead Physician, review and respond to any complaints and grievances

| Education |
* Must meet one of the following requirements: o Bachelor's Degree with minimum of 3 years of health care operational leadership; o Associate's Degree with 5 years of health care operational leadership; or o High School Diploma with 7 years of health care operational leadership |
| Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, as demonstrated by the ability to work effectively with nursing partners, individuals, and/or teams, across disciplines. * Effective skills in physical assessment and chronic disease management. * Able to work within the interdisciplinary team setting. * Able to utilize basic computer skills in the workplace. * Strong organizational skills. * Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge as outlined in position-specific competency requirements. * Skilled at data management, extraction, analytics and Microsoft excel. * Considerable knowledge of billing, coding, reimbursement and revenue cycle principles, practices, and methods. * Credible, assertive, self-motivated physician with demonstrated clinical excellence and patient relationships. * Detail oriented - able to make sense of complicated data and streamline and simplify in order to communicate data patterns to individual offices. * Lead by example; demonstrated skill in change management. * Ability to convey a vision of an integrated care delivery model and embrace organizational change. * Comfortable leading people through a change process in a matrixed environment. * Entrepreneurial spirit for business development opportunities and growth strategies. |
