POSITION SPECIFICS

The Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pennsylvania (BFTP) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Director of Learning and Development to lead the design, delivery, and growth of impactful training programs and entrepreneurial support for startups, small businesses, and innovators across the region. This role combines program leadership, marketing, partnership development, and direct business advising. It will be filled at the Business Development Relationship Adviser - Advanced Professional OR Senior Professional level, based on the successful candidate's qualifications.

This position may operate at one of our following campuses: University Park, Behrend, Harrisburg.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Director collaborates with portfolio management and business transformation teams to deliver scalable learning experiences-webinars, accelerators, workshops, and pitch competitions-while serving as a trusted advisor and connector within the innovation ecosystem.

Primary Responsibilities: Program Development and Educational Outreach

Program Strategy and Execution
  • Create and oversee a diverse portfolio of training programs, webinars, and workshops tailored to entrepreneurs and business owners.
  • Identify emerging trends and recruit expert speakers to deliver practical, timely content.
  • Manage all phases of program development-from concept through evaluation-with a goal of delivering 6-8 sessions annually.
  • Direct signature initiatives such as the Big Idea Contest and TechCelerator, including recruitment, logistics, and event execution.
Marketing and Audience Growth
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Specialist and internal team members to implement the BFLC digital marketing strategy across email newsletters, social media, and SEOfocused website content.
  • Build and expand an engaged subscriber and attendee base through consistent, compelling outreach.
  • Write and distribute the regular BFLC email newsletter, curating resources, announcements, and learning opportunities for entrepreneurs.
  • Manage and optimize the BFLC website as a central hub for resources, program registration, and ecosystem engagement.
Entrepreneurial Support and Business Advising
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and connector for Ben Franklin/CNP portfolio companies and regional entrepreneurs.
  • Assess company needs and provide tailored guidance in marketing, sales, operations, and growth strategies.
  • Facilitate introductions to consultants, mentors, and service providers within the Ben Franklin network.
  • Guide entrepreneurs to relevant resources, funding opportunities, and strategic partnerships.
Partnership and Ecosystem Development
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with universities, economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, and industry associations across the 32county region.
  • Represent Ben Franklin/CNP at regional and statewide events and meetings.
  • Engage in collaborative opportunities to coprogram and comarket initiatives that broaden BFLC's reach and impact.
  • Contribute to grant writing and proposal development to support BFLC programs and expansion.
Measurement and Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate key program outcomes, including participation rates, audience growth, business impact, and partnership progress.
  • Apply data and participant insights to enhance program relevance, quality, and effectiveness.
  • Maintain CRM systems and program databases to ensure accurate recordkeeping and reporting for organizational and funder requirements.

Additional Responsibilities:

Assisting with Client Relationship Management
  • Define and execute relationship management strategies to identify and pursue business development opportunities aligned with Ben Franklin/CNP's mission and portfolio goals.
  • Recruit, engage, and evaluate companies and entrepreneurs for funding and support through Ben Franklin/CNP's technology and economic development programs within an assigned region.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including business groups, industry partners, client companies, and federal, state, and local agencies, to advance organizational missions.
Assisting with Grants, Funding and Strategic Initiatives
  • Author and submit grants and proposals to secure funding from sponsors and public agencies, while identifying and addressing funding gaps.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with community organizations, government agencies, industry leaders, and businesses at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Develop proposals and negotiate contracts in support of organizational partnerships and program sponsorships.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven success designing and delivering professional development, training, or continuing education programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with digital marketing strategy, including content marketing, email campaigns, and social media.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives independently.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including facilitation in both live and virtual environments.
  • Experience working directly with startups, small businesses, or innovation ecosystems.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience designing or leading accelerator programs, pitch competitions, or entrepreneurship initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
  • Background in economic development, venture investment, or technology commercialization.
  • Experience using CRM systems, marketing automation tools, and webinar platforms.
  • Experience with grant writing, proposal development, or contract negotiation.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $68,200.00 - $129,500.00.
