ATC is seeking a highly motivated, mid-career Digital Design Engineer to lead and contribute to the development of advanced, high-speed, mixed-signal and digital FPGA-based electronics for next-generation sensing and processing systems. This role is part of ATC's Advanced Solutions Group, delivering mission-critical electronics for space and airborne platforms.
In this position, you will play a key technical role in architecting, designing, and implementing complex digital and mixed-signal systems utilizing advanced processors, high-speed data converters, high-bandwidth memories, and FPGAs. You will drive technical decisions from system concept through design, verification, production, and operational deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to digital and mixed-signal system architecture and definition, balancing performance, reliability, power, and environmental constraints
- Design, simulate, and verify high-speed digital and mixed-signal circuits, including high-speed serial interfaces, clocks, data converters, and memory subsystems
- Develop and implement high-performance FPGA designs for real-time digital signal processing, data movement, and control functions
- Perform and guide signal integrity, power integrity, and timing analysis for high-speed board-level designs
- Define and manage power budgets and contribute to robust designs for radiation-tolerant and mission-critical environments
- Collaborate closely with systems, electrical, RF, mechanical, thermal, software, and firmware teams to ensure cohesive system implementation
- Support designs through manufacturing, integration, test, and operational support, including failure analysis and design refinements
- Provide technical mentorship to early-career engineers and contribute to design reviews and best-practice development
Required Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- 5 or more years of experience in digital hardware design, with significant exposure to high-speed and mixed-signal systems
- Strong experience designing and implementing FPGA-based systems, including HDL development, simulation, synthesis, and hardware bring-up
- Mixed-signal board design involving high-speed ADCs, DACs, precision clocks, and power regulation
- Hands-on experience with high-speed digital interfaces (250 MHz clocks, multi-Gbps serial links, DDR, ADC/DAC interfaces, or similar)
- Proficiency in signal integrity, timing, and power integrity analysis at the board and system level
Preferred / Desired Experience
- High-reliability or mission-critical electronics (space, airborne, defense, or aerospace systems)
- Single Event Effects (SEE) mitigation and radiation-tolerant or radiation-aware design practices
- Experience developing and integrating DSP algorithms (e.g., filtering, modulation, data conditioning) in FPGAs
- Collaboration across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries in complex system environments
- Experience supporting designs through production and operational lifecycle phases
Candidates must be US citizens eligible for a Top-Secret US Government security clearance.
