Position Summary:
The Gatley Lab at the New Jersey Institute of Technology
(NJIT) has an open position for a post-doctoral fellow to start in Summer 2026.
The initial appointment is for 1 year, which can be extended based on mutual satisfaction.
The candidate will be working infrared and THz material characterization for
additive manufacturing. The successful applicant will carry out numerical
simulations of additively manufactured components as well as experimental work.
The chosen candidate will have access to state-of-the-art THz TDS equipment and
will be given ample opportunity to grow as a researcher, e.g., by supervising
students, collaborating with other experimentalists in the optics group at the
Department of Physics at NJIT, attending conferences, and learning new skills
(including python and Artificial Intelligence).
Essential Functions:
- Learn Artificial Intelligence and apply it to the field of
infrared and THz material characterization.
- Help the PI manage/supervise undergraduate and PhD
students.
- Interact with our various collaborators on a biweekly
basis.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Infrared and THz optical materials characterization.
- Clear oral communication with proven experience in writing scientific papers.
- Knowledge of Matlab and/or Python for data analysis.
- Some experience with FEM using COMSOL is advantageous.
- At the university's discretion, the education
and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can
demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination
of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success
in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated starting annual salary for this position is $62,232.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
