About the Job

Position Overview:

This position oversees, develops, and administers programs that support the review and recruitment of highly qualified and diverse applicants for entry into the University of Minnesota Medical School - Twin Cities campus. The Admissions Manager oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the Twin Cities admissions program, with direct responsibility for admissions processes, recruitment strategy, and program execution. This role exercises independent judgment in managing admissions operations and serves as a key decision-maker in process implementation and program effectiveness. The position reports to the Assistant Dean for Admissions.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

55%: Program Management

  • Lead the MD interview program in collaboration with other Admissions leaders. This includes logistics management, interviewer recruitment, and day-of activities.
  • Develop an effective interview training program for mission interviews.
  • Analyze feedback and implement appropriate improvements for recruitment and interview programming.
  • Partner with the Director of Admissions, Admissions Manager, Regional Campuses and the Assistant Dean for Admissions to manage the applicant review process, ensuring an efficient and effective admissions process.
  • Participate in admissions policies and procedures in conjunction with Assistant Dean for Admissions, such as: records retention policy, deferment policy, certification statement, scholarship consideration review process.
  • Oversee the administrative operations of the General Mission Admissions Committee, maintain and update training documents, serve as an ex officio member, and contribute to institutional training committees
  • Oversee admissions operations, including applicant processing workflows, data integrity, system implementation, and performance monitoring to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Oversee background check review process (if applicable)
  • Coordinate admissions data reporting (AAMC, LCME, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards

25%: Recruitment

  • Lead development of recruitment strategy aligned with institutional priorities
  • Independently manage recruitment initiatives and evaluate effectiveness
  • Develop and implement local and national recruitment plans which may include travel
  • Oversee relationships with the premedical advising community locally and nationally.
  • Plan and implement admissions-related recruitment events (fairs, prospective student visits, school visits, webinars, video projects, etc.).
  • Partner with the Office of Communications to update all recruitment materials (print and web); provide revisions to information and statistics published in annual surveys (MSAR), on the website, and through other media while maintaining responsibility for execution and outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, Pathways Programs, Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity, and the MD/PhD program on recruitment efforts
  • Serve as a contact for prospective applicants and provide advising services and information about the application process.
  • Oversee the review of recruitment scholarships and distribution process.
  • Oversee the development of recruitment initiatives aimed at attracting candidates from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in medicine and different socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Work with the UME to update the Admitted Student website, including updating important dates and current student profiles.
  • Influence recruitment strategy through data, trends, and market insights

20%: Other Duties

  • Ensure compliance with AAMC and LCME-related policies and regulations.
  • Provide general oversight of the Office of Admissions Twin Cities operations.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Pre-Health Student Resource Center.
  • Participate in AHC Director of Student Services and Admissions and AHC Admissions & Recruitment Functional Groups.
  • Review application files for the BA/MD program; serve as an interviewer for the program.
  • Supervise administrative staff or student workers and provide day-to-day direction and performance oversight
  • Provide functional leadership for admissions operations.
  • Analyze admissions data and recommend policy or process changes
  • Contribute to long-term admissions strategy
  • Exercise independent judgment in managing admissions operations and resolving complex issues
  • Serve as a key decision-maker in admissions operations and process implementation
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree plus at least 6 years of relevant experience, or master's degree plus at least 4 years of experience.
  • Experience working with diverse populations; demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to socio-ethnic and cultural communication styles.
  • Experience with project management, with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in education, student affairs, or admissions.
  • Strong knowledge of health professions, student development, and academic programming.
  • Working knowledge of university and college academic policies, financial aid policies, academic records, medical school entrance procedures, and available student resources.
  • Thorough understanding of medical education issues as they apply to the recruitment and selection of students.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $70,000-$78,000 anually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
