About the Department
NC State Continuing Education serves the public, the non-traditional student, and the academic community of NC State by facilitating access to University knowledge and resources and alternative methods of knowledge transfer; specifically to support non-credit programs provided by the University for non-degree seeking students.
The NC State Continuing and Lifelong Education (NCSCaLE) serves as a gateway to the vast intellectual and technical resources at NC State University. NCSCaLE has continually evolved to meet the educational needs of individuals, organizations, governmental agencies, and corporations. For more than 100 years, NCSCaLE has proudly carried on the tradition of public service first established by Jane S. McKimmon, a pioneer in the field of continuing education.
DELTA/NCSCaLE Business Operations is one of the administrative support units within the NCSCaLE, a $27 million operation that is supported primarily by revenue-generating programs. DELTA/NCSCaLE Business Operations provides business administration, financial management, human resource management for full-time, part-time, temporary and student employees, redistribution of salaries, supplemental pay and audit and approval of compensating controls, information analysis, contract and grant review, and policy interpretation and dissemination for all units within the NCSCaLE division. The unit is an authorized receipts and accounts receivable center. DELTA/NCSCaLE Business Operations is responsible for timely billing and ensuring that all collection efforts comply with the guidelines of the Attorney General Office and the Office of State Controller. Establishes and monitors use rates for the Division.

Essential Job Duties
Whether you are a spreadsheet wizard or a precision-driven professional, this is an opportunity to bring your attention to detail into a team focused on growth and reinvention. The Accountant I is part of DELTA/NCSCaLE Business Operations and supports complex, specialized accounting functions across multiple units, including the Office of Professional Development ( OPD) and Customized Training and Development ( CTD).
Working closely with senior accounting staff, this role applies accounting principles across a range of fiscal activities; supporting daily operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and contributing to financial reporting, reconciliation, and budget support.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and review financial transactions, including vouchers, requisitions, purchase orders, journal entries, travel reimbursements, and marketplace activity
  • Audit and reconcile financial activity, including PCard transactions, cash/check receipts, and system-generated reports
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies and accounting standards
  • Prepare, reconcile, and analyze financial data; support cost determination and cost distribution activities
  • Assist in maintaining and improving accounting systems and financial processes
  • Generate reports and financial statements that require interpretation and analysis of accounting records
  • Support budget monitoring and analysis for assigned units, including updating internal budgets and assisting with forecasting and year-end planning
  • Provide support for audits, program closeouts, and financial inquiries by ensuring accurate documentation and reporting
  • Contribute to the integrity of financial data through consistent application of internal controls and established procedures

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
Require post-baccalaureate credentials plus 1-2 years experience; a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience applying accounting principles, including budgeting practices and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (e.g., Excel/Sheets, Word/Docs, Gmail), with the ability to manage and analyze data efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-service mindset and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information, with a commitment to accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in higher education environments, including familiarity with NC State systems and processes
  • Knowledge of North Carolina state and university fiscal policies and procedures
  • Proficiency with PeopleSoft Financials or similar enterprise financial systems
  • Exposure to reconciliation, audit support, and financial reporting processes
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy
