What to Expect

The Hazardous Waste Technician will report directly to the Hazardous Waste Operations Manager and operate under the guidance of a shift lead. This role plays a critical part in supporting hazardous waste management across Tesla's Gulf Coast manufacturing sites, with responsibilities spanning waste collection, consolidation, labeling, inspection, and disposal compliance. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, self-driven professional who excels in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment and thrives on maintaining strict adherence to environmental regulations and internal protocols. They will perform routine container rounds, conduct 90-day Central Accumulation Area (CAA) inspections, respond to emergency spills, support industrial cleaning and remediation, and collaborate closely with third-party vendors and cross-functional teams. A key aspect of the role is the use of Tesla's in-house waste tracking system, where all waste pickup, movement, bulking, and shipping activities are logged in real time to ensure full compliance, accurate inventory control, and end-to-end traceability. Strong communication, self-management, organizational, and analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to proactively identify waste minimization and cost-saving opportunities. The role requires reliability, on-call availability, and a commitment to operational excellence in a culture that values accountability, continuous improvement, and recognition of high performance.


What You'll Do
  • Manage the full lifecycle of hazardous waste across Gulf Coast MFG sites, from collection and consolidation to secure transfer and disposal, ensuring compliance with EPA, OSHA, TCEQ, and Tesla internal standards
  • Perform routine container rounds, inspections, and 90-day CAA audits, with real-time logging of all waste movements, bulking, and transfers in Tesla's in-house waste tracking system for full traceability and compliance
  • Support emergency spill response, industrial cleaning, and site remediation activities, ensuring rapid containment, decontamination, and documentation in alignment with SPCC and safety protocols
  • Execute waste segregation, labeling, packaging, and manifesting processes, ensuring chemical compatibility and readiness for disposal within regulatory timeframes
  • Optimize waste handling operations by identifying and implementing waste minimization strategies, process improvements, and cost-saving opportunities across sites
  • Coordinate seamlessly with third-party waste vendors and internal teams to ensure timely pickups, load preparation, and on-time disposal, supported by accurate data in the in-house tracking system
  • Provide reliable on-call coverage and operational support during weekends, training, and staffing gaps, maintaining continuous compliance and site readiness

What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of experience in a high-tech industry or similar manufacturing operations environment
  • HAZWOPER, DOT, RCRA generator training - Preferred
  • Valid driver's license required and ability to operate assigned fleet vehicles
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, electric pallet jacks, telehandlers, and material carts
  • Ability to lift and carry items exceeding 20 pounds, including regular stair climbing to reach elevated work platforms
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel
