THE POSITION

Are you a reliable, hard-working individual ready to explore a career in fisheries? The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is looking for a Fish Culture Station Foreman to join our Huntsdale State Fish Hatchery in Cumberland County. In this role, you will oversee activities at the hatchery to ensure safe and efficient operations as well as regulatory compliance. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Fish Culture Station Foreman, you will be responsible for supervising fish culturists in the propagation of fish for stocking in Commonwealth waters. You will have the opportunity to play an integral part of the day-to-day operations at the Huntsdale State Fish Hatchery, while working alongside personnel to prioritize the hatchery needs to ensure efficiency. Work involves assisting with developing fish distribution schedules; producing and stocking trout and other species; directing building, grounds, and equipment maintenance and repair; handling recruitment; performing a variety of administrative functions including procurement tasks; as well as serving as the point of contact for public inquiries.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. The selected candidate may be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING::

* One year of experience as a Fish Culturist 2; or

* Two years of technical experience in the propagation and care of food or game fish; or

* An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Applicants must meet one of the following methods to be considered for this vacancy:
  • Reassignment
    • Only current civil service employees in the same agency who hold the same or similar job title, with the same maximum salary, within the same occupational group or where there is a logical career movement, will qualify for reassignment.
    • For Reassignment, meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher.
  • Promotion Without Examination
    • Class Restrictions for Promotion Without Examination Only - You must have or have held regular civil service status in one of the following classifications: Fish Culturist 2
    • Employees who previously held regular civil service status in the job title of the position being filled are also eligible for promotion without examination. The promotion without examination requirements are issued in accordance with merit system employment regulations. Seniority is defined as a minimum of 1 year in the next lower class by the posting closing date with no break in service.
    • For Promotion Without Examination: Meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Class B Commercial Driver's License.
This position is subject to the promotion provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
