Salary Range: $139,400 - $220,300


What your job will be like:

This role supports a key element of the Lab's Contractor Assurance System in supporting, mentoring, and guiding staff in achieving excellence in Conduct of Operations, Accelerator Safety, and Work Planning and Control. You will conduct routine field observations, actively participate in work planning and pre-job briefings, and evaluate line organizations' planning, oversight, and work execution to ensure alignment with lab policy and processes. To help accomplish the mission safely the candidate will identify issues in real time, communicate concerns directly to workers and line leadership, and collaborate with line organizations to develop effective and timely corrective actions. Trending lab issues and advising line leadership on strategic actions to take to continuously improve division performance will be an important part of this role. Communicating effectively with lab leadership on lab-level performance and recommended actions will ensure that lessons learned are applied across the laboratory. The position spends the majority of time in the field observing work, engaging with staff, and providing training or mentoring as needed. Additional responsibilities include reviewing work planning and control documentation, monitoring the status of closed findings and open action items, and participating in effectiveness reviews to ensure continual improvement in work execution.

In this job you will:
  • Engage with and mentor all levels of technical staff in CONOPS, Accelerator Safety, Work Planning and Control, and other areas that support the safe execution of work to deliver on the mission.
  • Observe and provide feedback on work planning and control processes and activities, specifically ESH, QA, and WPC related functions. Prioritize high risk, high consequence activities.
  • Identify, train and implement prevention methods for unsafe or non-compliant issues in field work. Lead corrective action efforts and be able to train / explain concepts to all levels of personnel.
  • Regularly check for and conduct effectiveness reviews of previously corrected processes and issues.
  • Develop, write and present findings, trends and proposed solutions to line Leadership and Senior Management
Lead - Supervisory - Management
    Experience
    • Required: 15 or more years experience in Environment, Safety and Health, Accelerator Operations, and/or Conduct of Operations in a DOE National Lab environment.
    • Required: Experience participating in DOE technical reviews of various types and levels of audience.
    Education
    • Required: Bachelor's Degree; Engineering, Science, Construction Management or relevant technical degree.
    Experience and Education Exchange

    Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience.

    Licenses and Certifications
      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
      • Highly skilled in the application of conduction of operations, accelerator safety and work planning and control to enable the safe, effective and efficient execution of work.
      • High: Highly skilled in writing technical plans, reports, and presentations for Operators, JLab Leadership, and DOE.
      • High: Highly skilled in effective in-person presentations to general audiences, JLab Leadership, and DOE.
      • Medium: Highly skilled in field applications of DOE Orders, clauses and regulations in a Science environment.
      • Skilled in application of Human Performance Improvement principles
