Responsibilities

ECS is seeking a Building Enclosure Staff Professional to join our Southeast Building Science + Infrastructure team in Atlanta, GA. In this role, you will support building enclosure consulting projects while developing foundational skills in field investigations, testing, technical analysis, and report preparation. You will work closely with experienced consultants and multidisciplinary project teams to evaluate building envelope performance and support construction quality across a variety of facility types. This position provides hands-on field experience and technical training while building a strong foundation in building enclosure consulting within a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interact and collaborate with staff members on a variety of projects
  • Attend project meetings with senior staff and assist with resolutions to technical and administrative problems
  • Interface with clients on a weekly regular basis. Maintain and develop a client database.
  • Begin to learn how to manage project budgets and the need for change orders. Prepare invoices and assist with collection efforts.
  • Basic ability to prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.Consult with your supervisor to help prioritize tasks on a daily basis.
  • Possess acceptable basic technical writing skills with regard to basic conventions of spelling, grammar, and professional content. Collaborates with more senior staff to produce reports. Work to improve writing skills, as necessary, under the direction of supervisors and Principal reviewers.
  • Prepare building science & infrastructure reports, perform analysis, and provide recommendations in collaboration with senior staff. Basic ability to interpret test results, identify issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Initiate project set up and implementation with supervision
  • Develop management capabilities of building science & infrastructure projects including the application of technical support, with supervisory input as needed. May be responsible for several projects being performed simultaneously.
  • Assist with preparation of proposals for training and developmental purposes.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of the construction process and learning to read and interpret figures, drawings, and site plans. May need to perform drafting or use computer aided design (CAD)
    software.
  • Perform daily site observations or inspections of roofing or completed building assemblies. Clearly document quality assurance observations and prepare field reports of findings. Begin to review basic quality assurance observations from technicians.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of IBC and local building codes as they relate to the building enclosure. Emerging familiarity with national standards such as ASHRAE, ASTM, and CSI.
  • Promptly communicate changing site conditions to supervisor and discuss their implications on field assessments. Determine the appropriate modifications to assessments, discuss them
    with your supervisor and implement them in the field.
  • Perform specialized building enclosure testing.
  • Basic understanding of building enclosure testing protocols that align with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Begin to learn key test standards and how field testing, system limitations, and test outcomes relate to design performance and potential failures.
  • Assist with building enclosure and/or structural consulting and forensic assessments for training and development.
  • Assist senior staff with commissioning projects (witness, document etc.)
  • Assist with and begin to learn how to perform new construction design review and design of repairs to existing building envelope components.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in building science & infrastructure consulting or an equivalent combination of advanced education and experience (i.e. 4-year degree + 1 years' experience or Associate degree + 3 years' experience).
  • Experience with non-destructive testing preferred.
  • Maintain certifications as necessary for the work performed. Professional certifications (such as NRCA/RCI, AWCI Certified EIFS Inspector) preferred.
    • Additional training and/or certifications may be required as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic knowledge of building science & infrastructure principles and applications.
  • Basic knowledge of building and materials codes and construction practices.
  • Basic knowledge of structural, architectural, and building systems, design, and/or analysis
  • Ability to work effectively in teams, with clients, peers and subordinates, as well as independently. Willing to take and follow detailed direction from superiors.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, walk on uneven terrain, and perform work at heights.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license required if driving for or on behalf of an ECS subsidiary.
