What to Expect
The Chassis Systems team is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to develop the vertical actuator control software that makes Full Self-Driving smooth, stable, and safe in the real world. As an Embedded Developer on the team, you will deliver high-quality embedded code that controls suspension and damping actuators using vehicle sensors, directly influencing ride, handling, and overall vehicle dynamics-including longitudinal, vertical, and lateral behavior. These systems keep the vehicle composed and passengers comfortable while ensuring optimal tire contact and stability so the autonomy stack can execute its trajectory with precision.

You will write efficient, safe, and robust code built on a physics-based architecture that follows first principles, works seamlessly across multiple vehicle platforms, and supports data-driven decisions while triaging parallel efforts. You will integrate sensors and motor controls, implement safety mechanisms on embedded targets, and solve complex problems spanning vehicle dynamics, motor controls, safety systems, and embedded software engineering. You will also drive design decisions on vehicle electrical architecture, microcontroller selection, software architecture, and PCB design. Join an industry-defining software team whose work is essential to making autonomous vehicles a reality-the intelligence of FSD is only as good as the control systems that bring it to life. Come build the safest and most performant vehicle dynamics and suspension control software in the world.

What You'll Do
  • Develop high-quality, safety-critical software for the RTOS, sensor and motor actuation drivers

  • Perform hands-on hardware bring-up, board-level debugging, and code optimization

  • Perform bench and PCB-in-the-loop testing for verification of developed software

  • Make performance and optimization trade-offs to meet product requirements

  • Designappropriate abstractionsto allow code reuse across different vehicle platforms

  • Developsoftwarewith test-driven verification and automated validation testing

  • Specify vehicle sensor, actuator, and computational performance requirements

  • Analyze system performance (physical and compute) against requirements

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering,or similar areas of study, or equivalent experience

  • Proficiencyin C

  • Proficiencywith git

  • Familiarity with MISRA C and Python are a plus

  • Hands-on experience with microcontroller peripherals such as ADCs, CAN, GPIOs, PWM, and SPI

  • Experience working with electrical schematics and understanding circuit behavior

  • Experience working with sensors and digital signal processing

  • Experience working with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS)

  • Experience working with PID controllers and other control loops is a plus

  • Knowledge of build systems (SCons, Bazel, Buck) are a plus
