About the Job

This is a non-exempt 67-day temporary position starting at $20.00 per hour working in the Department of Facilities and Operations. This position reports to the Operations Supervisor. Must be willing to work holidays. This position may be assigned to any area or work shift depending on the needs of the department.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
This position performs grounds keeping and general custodial and maintenance work on the University of Minnesota Crookston campus. (These examples do not include all possible responsibilities in this work and do not limit the assignment of related responsibilities):

  • Sweeping and shoveling debris from steps and sidewalks.
  • Mowing and watering lawns. Cleaning leaves and debris from lawns and shrubbery.
  • Cuts, rakes, weeds, edges, trims, and prunes lawns, vines, and shrubbery.
  • Loads and unloads trucks.
  • Scrubbing floors with heavy duty industrial scrubbing machines while using industrial cleaning chemicals. Drying floor with heavy duty industrial wet or dry pick-up vacuum. Sweeping floors with floor brushes or treated dust mops.
  • Cleaning bathroom stone surfaces, walls, windows, mirrors, and fixtures. Polishing bathroom chrome finishes. Collecting wastepaper (i.e. paper towels). Replenishing bathroom supplies (i.e. toilet paper).
  • Observes deficiencies in building hardware, doors, windows, and other facilities. Turn in a deficiency list to maintenance for maintenance and repair. Makes verbal and written reports on unusual conditions.
  • Set up equipment and furniture required for university functions.
  • Move furniture, office equipment, tables, benches, chairs, athletics equipment, refuse, garbage, supplies and various kinds of heavy equipment.
  • Dismantles, packs, and reassembles supplies and other materials.
  • Change and cleans lights and lighting fixtures, set up special lighting and decorations as required by program needs.
  • Replacing incandescent and fluorescent light which can be reached by a 12-foot ladder.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the assignment
  • Ability to interact in a public setting in a respectful and professional manner
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience operating ground and snow removal equipment such as a tool cat, skid steer, loader, etc.
  • Prior experience in custodial or grounds operations.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour
