Position Highlights

The Custodial Area Supervisor supervises a team of custodians responsible for cleaning a section of the University. They will issue keys to custodians for the shift as well as collect them back at the end of the shift. They will sometimes drive custodians to their different assigned buildings for the shift and help as needed. Time study projects are performed periodically to gauge work done for given square footage data. The Custodial Area Supervisor is in charge of time sheets for custodians as well as assessing the work done by these front line workers. They may also work evenings and weekends based on University events such as sports, graduation, and other events.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Directs the work of custodians performing cleaning tasks.
  • Assists in supervising all inter-collegiate athletic sports and campus events.
  • Schedules work to meet normal requirements without interfering with building occupants or students.
  • Inspects buildings, rooms, storage space, halls, fixtures, and custodial equipment to observe the results of the work performed.
  • Drives a university vehicle daily across campus to inspect the work done in various buildings, deliver supplies to buildings, and transport custodians.
  • Recommends budget, materials, and equipment for assigned areas.
  • Prepares a variety of operational reports and memoranda's.
  • Completes career conversations with employees annually.
  • Submits documentation regarding employee job performance and behavior.
  • May meet with employees to issue disciplinary action.
  • Coaches custodians to improve their job knowledge; provides high-quality cleaning services and encourages career development.
  • Trains custodians and temporary staff on equipment operation, chemical usage, and cleaning schedules.
  • Requests appropriate material, equipment, and supplies while operating within the established budget.
  • Recommends budget, materials, and equipment for assigned area.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to meet the needs of our customers.

  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards.
  • Proven team-building skills.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and budgeting process.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to build relationships and communicate information to other team members.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Supervisory skills, management skills, such as planning and organizing, and the ability to train new employees is required.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate degree with a minimum of five years of experience in custodial services.
  • Two to four years of custodial supervisory experience is also highly preferred.
