Responsibilities

The Controller is responsible for managing the accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. The role ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

1. Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Responsible for preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights on financial performance.

2. Accounting Operations:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Oversee financial systems, such as Dynamics, Ex-Flow, etc.

3. Treasury Management:

  • Work with banks and financial institutions on lines of credit, debt financing, and banking relationships.
  • Ensure that all bank accounts are monitored and reconciled on a daily basis.

4. Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Develop and enforce strong internal control policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including corporate income tax, sales tax, and payroll taxes.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Direct the team in internal and external audits, ensuring that necessary documentation and responses are handled timely.

5. Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of accounting software systems.
  • Streamline accounting operations to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

6. Team Leadership:

  • Manage, coach, and mentor junior accounting staff, providing training and development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support career growth within the team.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

7. Technical Accounting:

  • Handle complex accounting issues and provide technical guidance.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and practices.
  • Preparation of technical accounting memos and documentation.

8. Strategic Support:

  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Lead or participate in strategic projects and initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive accounting experience including 5 years in a managerial role.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). CPA, CMA, CIA certifications considered a plus.
  • If driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; experience and knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics a plus
  • Prior experience in the implementation of a new accounting software required
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
