Cranberry Township, Butler County, is seeking applicants for one (1) full-time Utility Worker position (I or II) within the Traffic Operations Division of the Public Works Department. This position reports to the Traffic Operations Manager. Applicants should be aware there are
two SEPARATE job openings on the Township employment page for one position and applicants will be considered for the position they apply to only. This position is a Bargaining Unit position.
Cranberry Township is a dynamic and fast-growing community and as a Traffic Utility Worker the successful candidate for this position will play a vital part in maintaining and improving the safety and efficiency of our transportation infrastructure and help ensure safe, reliable travel for residents, businesses, and visitors every day. This position requires the ability to operate a bucket truck, work at heights above fifteen feet, work in temporary traffic control work zones, and perform duties in various weather conditions. What You'll Do As a member of our team, the successful candidate will: *Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair all traffic signals, signage, communication infrastructure and related electrical components and energized systems. *Operate computers and related equipment/technology to access maintenance files and to upload and download information to and from traffic signals. *Perform construction work required for equipment installation *Respond to service calls, including emergency signal outages and malfunctions *Operate bucket trucks, heavy equipment, hand and power tools, and light- and heavy duty trucks and other equipment required for signal maintenance *Maintain accurate records of service calls and work orders *Maintain and order inventory of necessary parts and supplies *Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and proper work zone traffic control practices *Perform snow removal duties, including snow plowing of assigned routes during winter months Who You Are We are looking for someone with strong electrical aptitude who enjoys hands-on work and troubleshooting in the field, are committed to maintaining safe, reliable infrastructure that supports the community, and who meets the following criteria: Required Qualifications Education/Training: HS diploma or GED and an electrical certification or technical degree. Experience: Two (2) years of experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and/or operations or a related field. Driver's License: Valid Driver's License and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL license within six (6) months of hire, with Township assistance. EQUIVALENCY (Work Experience/Education): Work experience may be substituted for education/training on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years for either position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). Preferred Qualifications Experience: Three (3) years of experience with electrical and communications wiring and one (1) year of experience in in traffic signal maintenance. One (1) winter season of experience with snow removal. Experience with operation of medium duty equipment. License: Class A CDL License. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary for This Position Include, but are Not Limited to: Knowledge of oTraffic signal systems, components, and basic electrical principles oBasic computer programs, including MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint). oTools, equipment, and materials used in electrical and utility work oSafety precautions and occupational hazards related to the electrical trade Skill in oDiagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical issues oOperating specialized equipment such as bucket trucks and testing devices oUsing mechanical and electrical abilities to diagnose, repair, replace or modify relays, switches, fuses and cabinet parts Ability to oLearn complex, interactive and computerized/electronic traffic signal systems, including operational principals/protocols and maintenance practices, and learning safety procedures to work on energized circuits oWork outdoors in a variety of adverse conditions, such as heavy nearby traffic and inclement weather, with exposure to the elements, including heat, rain, wind and cold, and safely work within the proximity of electrically energized circuits. oRespond after hours for emergencies and other necessary work, as needed oOperate a motor vehicle Physical Requirements oWork in heights up to 45 feet, such as standing in a raised bucket to repair, remove or replace signal heads or other devices oAbility to lift up to 50lbs oLift arms above shoulder level, such as working with overhead wiring, for extended periods of time What We Offer An opportunity to provide meaningful, hands-on work that supports the infrastructure residents rely on every day and helps maintain the high quality of life in our community. Hourly Wage pursuant to Collective Bargaining Agreement Starting hourly rate of $30.36 with a maximum hourly rate obtained after successful completion of a three (3) year job progression. 2026 Top Rate - $39.38. Traffic Signal Utility Worker II: Starting hourly rate of $32.15 with a maximum hourly rate obtained after successful completion of a three (3) year job progression. 2026 Top Rate - $39.38.
