Senior Manager, Technical Accounting & Reporting

The Senior Manager reports to the Assistant Controller and has high visibility across the organization. The role collaborates closely with executive management, corporate functional leadership, global operating leadership, internal & external auditors, consultants and third-party service providers to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting and to drive strategic initiatives that enhance the organization's financial reporting framework. Additionally, the Senior Manager is responsible for the hiring, training, evaluation, supervision and professional development of multiple team members, including participants in Avient's leadership development program.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting Leadership: Lead the Company's SEC reporting process, including review, distribution and filing of Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 11-K and other required filings. The team partners closely with Investor Relations, FP&A, Legal, and teams across the organization to support compliance with all regulatory requirements.

  • Technical Accounting Leadership: In coordination with the Assistant Controller, lead and direct the accurate application of US GAAP for key technical areas including, but not limited to, equity compensation plans, shares outstanding, environmental liabilities, foreign currency and annual impairment tests.

  • Accounting Functional Leadership: Guide and support global finance and accounting leadership and other global functions on US GAAP technical matters and corporate accounting policies. Support global statutory audits to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations, as needed.

  • External Collaboration: Coordinate with external auditors on significant accounting matters, facilitating effective communication, timely resolution of issues and alignment on reporting conclusions.

  • Internal Controls Compliance: Lead group-wide control initiatives and foster a culture of compliance and accountability.

  • Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of accounting professionals, promoting collaboration, customer service and excellence in accounting and reporting.

  • Process Improvement Initiatives: Champion initiatives to automate and simplify accounting and reporting processes, leveraging technology to enhance productivity, data quality and internal controls.

  • Strategic Transaction Execution: In coordination with global leadership, ensure timely and accurate accounting and reporting for strategic transactions, including divestiture carve-outs, debt offerings, compensation plan modifications and share repurchases.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; advanced degree (MBA or master's in accounting) preferred.

  • Certification: CPA license is strongly preferred.

  • Experience: A minimum of seven years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with global consolidation and technical US GAAP accounting. Prior experience in a large, complex, or multinational organization is preferred; public accounting or audit experience is a plus.

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of US GAAP technical accounting principles and operational accounting practices.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a global organization. Strong interpersonal, organizational and teamwork skills.

  • Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Systems Proficiency: Deep knowledge of financial systems and consolidation tools. Experience with SAP, HFM preferred, adaptable to new technologies.

  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to accuracy, quality and compliance in financial reporting.
