Analyst II - SAO Raw Materials

Job Summary

The Analyst II - SAO Raw Materials supports accounting, reporting, and analysis for raw materials, the company's largest area of spend. Reporting to the Senior Manager - SAO Raw Materials, this role partners closely with Finance, Procurement, and Operations to ensure accurate accounting treatment, compliance with US GAAP and SOX requirements, and meaningful financial insights. The position also supports forecasting, process improvements, and setup of accounting processes for a new brownfield melting facility in Athens, Alabama, with occasional travel required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform SAP/MES raw materials accounting activities, including month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, subledger maintenance, account analysis, and related monthly reporting.

  • Prepare financial and business analyses related to material usage performance, inventory balances, safety stock levels, and strategic raw material decisions.

  • Prepare, analyze, and report monthly raw material purchase forecasts and variance analyses, including explanations for discrepancies.

  • Assist in establishing accounting and forecasting processes for the new brownfield melting facility in Athens, Alabama.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to leverage digital tools and AI to improve analytical capabilities and reporting insights.

  • Train to become a subject matter expert in SAP and internally developed raw material accounting systems.

  • Identify and drive continuous process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and automation.

  • Support SOX compliance and US GAAP reporting, including preparation of audit schedules and documentation.

  • Track and analyze raw materials held at third-party locations.

  • Assist with quarterly raw material counts and reconciliation audits.

  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to partner cross-functionally with Finance, Procurement, and Operations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Willingness to travel periodically to Athens, Alabama.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy and controls.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

  • Prior experience in accounting, finance, or analytical roles preferred.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of financial accounting principles and US GAAP.

  • Experience or ability to learn SAP and manufacturing-related accounting systems.

  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.

  • Ability to analyze large data sets and translate results into actionable insights.

  • Exposure to forecasting, variance analysis, and inventory accounting preferred.
