About the opportunity

Join SWCA Environmental Consultants as a Cultural Resources Team Lead to support our growing work across Georgia and Tennessee and be part of an expanding team delivering impactful projects throughout the Southeast.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and develop a talented team while supporting projects that span renewable generation, transportation, transmission, site development, and other infrastructure initiatives across the region. Your work will directly support our clients' needs while contributing to the stewardship and preservation of cultural resources throughout Georgia and Tennessee.

As a Cultural Resources Team Lead, you will mentor junior staff, foster collaboration across disciplines, and help drive both scientific excellence and business growth. Your leadership will play a key role in supporting existing clients, pursuing new opportunities, and strengthening SWCA's presence in the Southeast.

This is a full-time, salaried position with remote flexibility, ideally based within a commutable distance to project sites across Georgia and Tennessee to support fieldwork and client engagement as needed.


What you will accomplish

  • Lead and develop a team of cultural resources professionals.
  • Oversee field research, data collection, analysis, and report production to ensure compliance with high-quality standards.
  • Manage the technical and financial aspects of cultural resources projects.
  • Build and maintain client relationships through business development efforts.
  • Network within agencies and industry organizations to expand our client base and revenue.
  • Identify and qualify sales opportunities, manage prospects and proposals, and make recommendations.
  • Mentor and facilitate the professional growth of team members.
  • Take initiative and resolve problems efficiently.

Experience and qualifications for success

Basic qualifications

  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Historic Architecture, History, or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of consulting experience, including team leadership and project management.
  • Demonstrated experience with Section 106 and other applicable federal, state, and local cultural resource regulatory processes.
  • Archaeological experience within the Southeastern United States, preferably including Georgia and/or Tennessee.
  • Familiarity working with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) in the Southeast.
  • Advanced skills in specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic, ceramic, faunal analysis).
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for archaeology and/or architectural history.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and business development skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time, including overnight stays.

Minimum qualifications

  • Experience working with federal agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, or other federal land management agencies.
  • Established or developing relationships with Tribal Nations in the Southeastern United States.
  • Active involvement with professional historic or archaeological societies at the regional or national level.

An employee in this position can expect a salary of $77,662.00 to $101,228.40/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
