$93,400-$104,500 Application Window Open date: April 6, 2026 Next review date: Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Tuesday, Jun 30, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS-Davis) seeks to hire a researcher to study land use policies in California, the adoption of such policies, and their implications for transportation, as well as the implications of transportation policy for land use. The researcher will develop an effective research program encompassing these topics, taking into consideration the relationships between state, regional, and local policies. The researcher should have both qualitative and quantitative research experience, including but not limited to developing, conducting, and analyzing surveys and interviews, and to making effective use of existing data sources. The researcher will possess knowledge of the theories used to understand both individual behavior and the policy making processes. The researcher will be capable of leading a team of students and researchers. The researcher should also have experience in disseminating research results to policymakers using policy briefs, webinars, and one-on-one engagement. The researcher will engage in the following activities; develop research protocols and write grant proposals, advice graduate and undergraduate students, conduct independent and collaborative research projects, analyze data and synthesize literature, publish in academic journals, and present at academic and professional conferences. The researcher will be expected to participate in professional societies or other educational/research organizations, editorial boards, etc.; to give invited presentations; and to review manuscripts and grants. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in urban planning, transportation planning, public policy, political science, or another transportation-related field. A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and some postdoctoral and mentorship experience is required. The applicant must possess expertise and experience in designing and conducting research (including surveys and interviews); experience developing research protocols, including filing, obtaining, and maintaining institutional review board project approval; and knowledge and proven experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including statistics. The applicant should have experience in managing confidential personal data securely, and knowledge of IRB requirements related to personally identifiable information. The applicant should be competent in the use of at least one of the following statistical software packages: SPSS, STATA, R, or JMP. The applicant must have a demonstrated ability to secure research funding and an ability to initiate, coordinate, and conduct research programs with a variety of funding sources, including state and federal agencies. Strong interpersonal collaboration and networking skills are required, along with the ability to function at a high level of competence, and to work effectively with individuals representing a diversity of backgrounds, interests, and positions, both within and outside of the University of California.
